Commitment makes you sure and surity begets confidence and confidence sells well . You will be happy tbh. Being rational means being confused a lot and lot of time you will tend to say I don't know. I need to know more. This urge of knowing more never stops and you will never make a decision.
@Eterrath3 жыл бұрын
I'm facing this problem right even though the difference is I don't actually know anything substantial pertaining to being rational, so that's why I'm confused about where to start. If you don't mind, would you kindly help me take the first step? Maybe a book, maybe an individual I should know about, maybe trustworthy sources. Any sequence to follow etc. I want to be able to make my own decisions by also learning how to make them. It's something I desperately need right now and I think small steps would be great. Thanks in advance.

You seem to actually be speaking to 'attachment' as opposed to commitment. For example, I am committed, 100%, to the idea that people can be moral without believing in god. But I'm not attached to it so much ... I have no burning desire to change the world. I can be more/less attached but I actually can't be more/less committed. If I'm '50% committed' then it seems to really mean I'm ambivalent. This also speaks to the topic of personal change. A person may feel they are not committed to a goal because their motivation may wax and wane (like me trying to lose 100 lbs.). But they are absolutely committed simply because they always want, to want, to lose weight. Attachment is a conventional assessment - the degree of motive (actions, 'doing', toward an existential desire (to 'be' different). I've found identifying the distinction of existential vs. conventional has been incredibly valuable.

For a hyena a rotten corpse is food, it smells appealing and it’s tasty. For a human, the same corpse is a horrifying sight, it smells appalling and it would be absolutely sickening to taste. The same thing presenting very different identities to various observers. But this is also true among humans-there’s immense variety between us when it comes to how we’re representing various things, especially how we represent other people. I am *very* different than how my grandmother knows me, and that’s *very* different than how my best friend knows me, and that’s again *very* different then how other friends know me. And i’m not talking about the fact that i behave differently around different people, which is also true, but more importantly here is the fact that different minds have *very* different subtle and complex ways of representing things. You can see your girlfriend like an angel while your best friend keeps telling you that she’s just the average slimy self centered vulgar person. If i die, whatever representations of me remain in other people’s minds, they’re gonna be so different from who i really am to myself that for all intents and purposes can be considered to be representations of other people.
