An electrical conductor has lots of charges that are free to move. In a metal, the charges that are free to move are electrons. The electric current through the metal is the flow of these free electrons.

@@chrvoje_engineering Yaaa I have one practical example that my professors used to say that is, In a substation the incoming overhead transmission line is not directly connected to the distribution transformer there, but the incoming over head transmission line will be first conneced to the underground cable then to circuit breaker and then to the tranafomer,, the reason for this is ,, if any lightning⚡ strikes the over head transmission line or the transmission tower outside the substation and by chance the surge arrestors are fail... Then that impact of lightining will be taken care by the UG cable and the transformer will remain safe,,,,, they say that the UG cable has less 'surge impedence' in comparison to overhead transmission line Now this word 'surge impedence' is very hard to visualize
