Every NHL team in this era has a superstar ... or two. Whats making McDavid and Oilers stand out is they have #97+#29+#18+#2+91 as standout players .... good depth on the ice on any given line. But to put the entire teams outcome on one player is as foolish as it comes...case in point ...Conner Bedard in Chicago ... highly praised for his skills ... yet the one superstar can not by himself alter a teams future. I feel for the kid as the hype and expectations of his performance were enormous.... ending his season with a minus 44 had to be a very crushing realization for the youngster.

The best from each era won a cup. Gretzky , Lemieux , Crosby , Kane , Ovechkin , add franchise player i might've missed. Right now , he's in a sad spot where he could become the greatest player to never win a cup. No defense , AHL goalies... Drai and Bouchard contracts this summer... yeah...

All had better teams than Connor. I'll give you that logic maybe with nba or qb's in nfl because they have a bigger influence on the game but in hockey it is really hard to have a single player single handedly affect a team winning vs losing games except maybe really hot goalies like Jonathan Quick when he won the cups with LA. I guess elite defenseman as well like pronger and Chara can really affect a game as well but it seems the most difficult for forwards to do imo.

Yeah McDavid is a great player but right he isnt winning a cup anytime soon. He can play at 2 point per game in the playoffs but doesn't matter if he and the Oilers get squashed by an actual contender every year.
