Have to disagree with Wayne about not worrying now about what he will do after hockey. NOW is the time he should be looking because you never know, something in hockey or outside of hockey could shorten his career and the big dollars will no longer be coming in. Look how many professional athletes have gone broke even while playing professional sports or within several years after they stopped playing. Like they say, "There is no better time then now". Just hope he doesn't have some scammer investor who will take his money or get him into bad/risky investments.

@@ToddSnow Each player can only be judged against their peers, and the NHL is over 100 years old. Lemieux or Orr are the only 2 other players that even come close to being so far ahead of their peers. Connor is a generational player, but "that's it", as ridiculous as that sounds. He's not leaps and bounds better than his peers. Before Lemieux came along Wayne was so far above everyone it's not even funny. In 1984 he won the scoring race by 79 points. He had 212, #2 had 126. 126 is still an incredible year in 2021. That's why I think you can compare them. Connor is the #1 player on earth, but would people be surprised if he got 2nd in the scoring race to MacKinnon, and both of them within 10 points of #3? Wayne getting second in his prime wasn't even a remote possibility.
@ToddSnow
@ToddSnow 3 жыл бұрын
@@jasondashney I hear your argument but I think you are conveniently leaving out that fact that hockey has become much more popular over the years, narrowing the skill gap. Also the game is objectively more skilled today if you look at the lack of enforcement roles in the modern era. Furthermore look at the goalie equipment today compared to when Gretzky played. Do I need to go on? Not saying Gretzky wasn’t a phenomenal player and wouldn’t be if he played today, but comparing his stats to players today who will NEVER be able to catch them due for the evolvement of the game, not lack of skill, is a tiring argument

There ain’t many people, let alone athletes who are as humble as Wayne. The undisputed GOAT of his sport with numbers that won’t ever be touched & a laundry list of accolades but you wouldn’t know it the way he talks about himself. The love & respect he has for past, present & future players too is huge.

I dont live there anymore but when I did I had seasons tickets (1978 to 1986) center ice second row in the blues. Oilers used to come out on the ice to the sounds of a star wars upbeat theme song i just cant remember who did it. They need that song back again...maybe a coach/gm like Slats and a Chief Scout like Barry Fraser and yes Tony....they'll be skating around with the cup again

Whats strikes me is how personable and great spirited and wise the great one is...and the mantle of pressure there is on the shoulders of the younger one is. They are a lot alike...Wayne has come through the wringer at times but still the greatest ever...love how he pays hommage to Gordie. I hope Connor comes through the wringer with the same great spirit of Gordie and Wayne.
