LA Rams receiver Cooper Kupp had one of the best seasons ever in 2021, and he's even better than he's given credit for. Here's how Kupp has become the focal point in Sean McVay's offense.

I’m not sure why we consider him a ‘lesser athlete’. He’s probably 6’2 and runs a 4.5. Devante Adam’s has about the same measurables. Both are great route runners. He also jukes our defenders often. It’s a disservice to call him an average athlete

@@jenniferdegraw2839 The thing is though they are most likely wrong about the 40 times. They are from the combine which just doesn't mean anything after you've been training in the NFL for any amount of time with health and fitness specialists everywhere you look and where your career depends on leveling up your game since college. People get faster and it's been 6 years for kupp. Even Devante has come out and said he's much faster now than he was in the combine. The combine has never been more than a starting point. Sure the fastest draft picks might get even faster but the slow ones have much more to improve on and often do. So in agreement with you, he clearly was the best meaning if he still runs a 4.62 somehow then I guess we should be drafting slower more well-rounded players to begin with instead of only valuing a singular type of speed that you only get a few tries to showcase.

I’m personally done with the ‘Kupp should be in consideration for the MVP in 2021’ talk. He IS the NFL MVP and it’s really not very close. Forget other seasons, forget star power, and forget the narrow thinking that the MVP should go to a QB. Vote Kupp the MVP and let’s put some integrity back into the award. Cooper Kupp MVP 2021 There has been a lot said about how the MVP is a Quarterback award in the NFL. That is true due to the nature of the position. An argument could certainly be made that at least 20 of the starting QB’s are the most valuable member of their team. What tends to happen is, as I’ve said for years, the QB gets more blame and more credit than they deserve in most cases. The ‘more credit’ aspect comes into play especially for the teams with the most wins. This year the front runners are Aaron Rodgers for his high rating and large number of wins, Tom Brady for leading the league in Passing Yards and TD’s, Jonathan Taylor for his runaway with the Rushing crown and Cooper Kupp for his domination of the Wide Receiver position in 2021. The Colts didn’t make the playoffs. That eliminates Taylor. Aaron Rodgers had a decent year, but let’s take a closer look. He finished 10th in Passing Yards, 7th in Yards Per Attempt, 11th in Completions, 3rd in Completion %, 4th in TD’s, 7th in 20+ Yard Completions, 8th in 40+ Yard Completions, 1st in Fewest INT’s and 1st in QB Rating. Is Aaron Rodgers more ‘valuable’ than Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes? Than Dak Prescott or Joe Burrow? Than Justin Herbert or Derek Carr? Than Tannehill or Allen? Very hard to make those arguments. Meanwhile, Cooper Kupp had a season for the ages. He was not only the Rams’ most consistent player, he is the MVP of the NFL. He didn’t just lead in a few categories, he absolutely separated himself from every other WR in the NFL while making key catches in almost every game for the Rams. Except for the last game, every time Kupp had 100 or more yards receiving the Rams won. He made wide open catches, contested catches, and sideline catches. Kupp did this while playing in a division with 3 playoff teams (there are as many double digit win teams in the NFC West as there are in the rest of the NFC), Green Bay is the only team representing the NFC North. Another thing Kupp does that Rodgers doesn’t - block. He has been a blocker in the Rams’ run game. Through Week 17 he blocked on 332 snaps with a grade of 75.2 - the highest of any player with at least 200 run-blocking snaps (per Cameron Dasilva). Let’s take a look at how incredible 2021 was for the Yakima, Washington native… Kupp lead all receivers in the NFL in the following 19 categories (2nd in parenthesis); 1. Receptions - 145 (123 - Adams) 2. Yards - 1,947 (1,616 - Jefferson) 3. Yards Per Game - 114.53 (97.06 - Adams) 4. 100+ Yard Rec Games - 11 (8 - Adams) 5. 90+ Yard Rec Games - 16 (8 - Adams) 6. TD’s - 16 (13 - Chase) 7. 20+ Yard Receptions - 30 (27 - Jefferson) 8. 40+ Yard Receptions - 9 (9 - Samuel / Williams) 9. 1st Down Receptions - 89 (84 - Adams) 10. Yards After Catch - 850 (768 - Samuel) 11. Targets - 191 (169 - Adams) 12. Targets Inside 20 - 37 (34 - Diggs) 13. Receptions Inside 20 - 26 (19 - Diggs) 14. Yards Inside 20 - 205 (146 - Diggs) 15. Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement - 615 (440 - Adams) 16. YAR - 639 (440 - Adams) 17. Effective Yards - 2,023 (1,759 - Adams) 18. % of Team Points - 21% (17% - Chase) 19. QB Rating on Targets (more than 100 Targets) - 124.8 (122.6 - Evans) NFL Records set or tied by Cooper Kupp in 2021 1. Most 90+ yard games in a season - 16 (13 - Antonio Brown_2014, Michael Irvin_1995) 2. Most Consecutive 90+ yard games in a season 13 (not sure who’s next) 3. Most 100+ yard games in a season - 11 (11 - Calvin Johnson_2012, Micheal Irvin_1995) 4. First player to have 130 catches, 1,800 yards and 15 TD’s in a single season Receiving stats in a season all time (yes, I know 2021 had 17 games) 1. Most receiving yards - 1,947 (2nd to Megatron’s 1,964). Note: Knocked Torry Holt’s 1,696 in 2003 out of the all time top 10. 2. Most Receptions - 145 (2nd to Michael Thomas 149). Note: Adams had his best season with 123. 3. Tied for 15th for TD’s in a season - 16. Note: Randy Moss not only has the most (23), but has 3 of the top 10 slots. Most by a Ram - 17 by Elroy ‘Crazy Legs’ Hirsch. 4. Most Yards Per Game - 114.5 (10th). Note: Moved ahead of Isaac Bruce (111.3 in 1995) but well behind Hirsch’s 124.6 in 1951.

His belief in himself, a work ethic that rivals Peyton Manning's, humility, hands like Steve Largeant, route running like Jerry Rice, and run blocking like Ed Mcaffrey. Remember him? Why are white people so shocked that a white guy can play wide receiver so well? It's not like he's the 1st great white wide receiver. And then they start comparing sizes, as if Calvin Johnson's size is the reason he was so great. If that was the case, every tall receiver would have his numbers. This narrator just dismissed all the Black receivers' talents & skills to their size & speed. He also is implying that Kupp isn't one of the best athletes in the world. Why? That's the only way to beat the best, unless he's trying to say Kupp is just so much smarter than the other athletes that he doesn't need to be a great athlete. Kupp is the same size as Jerry Rice & probably runs the same speed or faster than Rice. Stop the BS narrative & give the man his credit for being a great athlete & give the other guys you mentioned their credit for being more than just a great athlete.

@@Youngswizzy667 Thank you for the addition to the conversation. Now then. I wonder how sustainable his success will be. It seems difficult for elite players to have elite statistical production year-after-year; I would expect that defenses will likely stifle him or double him or whatever in coming years, where he will instead possibly be used as a distraction so that others get more open. It's going to be interesting to see how the Rams adapt to that.
@radioactiveape1652
@radioactiveape1652 2 жыл бұрын
@@Eidenhoek Actually your quite right about that. Kupp has always been our best wide receiver, but ever since we got Stafford, Kupp has been able to use his extreme talent and latent ability to put up some extreme numbers. He had always been this good tho. The guy has an incredible understanding of the game. And he always plays with the intention of improving himself in the team. He doesn't care how many yards he gets or how many touchdowns he gets. He finds some extreme satisfaction in playing the way that he is the most useful. So if everyone is doubling him, he is fine with that, because it means he gets to help make better matchups for the rest of his team. Kupp has always been that good, but with the way that he is used now, he gets to show off all of the hard work he puts into the game . So to add on to what you were saying. No he might not always have seasons like that, but it means he is becoming like Aaron Donald. He had a presence on the field that teams cannot ignore, and it makes matching up against the rams really difficult.

@@radioactiveape1652 How can he be your best when even the defenses playing the Rams don’t scheme accordingly? Do you know something that the coaches and players don’t? He’s a slot guy. That usually means single coverage with linebacker or safety. That’s a mismatch with the advantage going to the WR every time. We’ve seen other #2 guys produce for the same reasons. Smith-Schuster, Thielen, and now Kupp. His success could actually last because of how much better the rest of the WR group on the Rams is. Just ask Robert Woods, who outproduced Kupp until the Rams finally acquired a true #1 guy.

I'm late to this party but now I understand how Kupp's versatility has a similar impact to Deebo Samuel's versatility but in a different approach. But both receivers pretty much have unlocked both Shanahan based offenses and have become the heart of that engine. Where Deebo is akin to best case scenario Percy Harvin, Kupp is like super versatile Hines Ward in part due to that next level run blocking role.
