Hi! I'm Tanic Sims 2 but you can call me Tanny and welcome back to the Corruption Chronicles! Join me as we seek the answer to a question as old as time: just how corrupt are the Sims 2 premade neighbourhoods anyway?
The first of the subhoods in this series, Downtown is a new hood shipped with the second EP, Nightlife - meaning in-game resurrection is now possible. But does this mean Downtown is less corrupted than the base game hoods, or are there still problems worth addressing?

Tricou Treat! -Yes, I have been waiting since October to say that- To thank you all for a Sims-credible year, have this absolute MONSTER of a video! There’s a lot that I want to say, but I’m sure there’ll be a post on my Community page expressing my gratitude in a loooot of depth soon, if it’s not up already 😉 This is a special video not just because it is my last of 2021, but it’s also the last video with the original mic. By the time I purchased the new one I had already finished about 20 minutes of this video, so I decided to keep recording with the same microphone for consistency (and because re-recording and re-editing that much video is a nightmare...). All videos from now on will be with the new mic :) I am so sorry that this took longer than expected. Hopefully this will be worth the wait! Thank you all for being so patient and understanding. I am not sure what the next video will be, but I have plenty of ideas for shorter videos I tease at the end of this video I want to work on before tackling Bluewater Village. I hope those will be enough to tide everyone over until then. Thank you all so much for your continued support throughout the year. Let’s meet again in 2022 ❤️

@@tanicsims2 Yes exactly! 😆 (Oh, and what about a sim who is actually psychic and doesn't realize it at first, and who keeps rolling these unfinished businesses as a kid, and when they grow up they become something like a ghost whisperer because they realize they're resolving someone of their limbo everytime. But their morality is questioned by the living because their loyalty lies with the dead, who sometimes have wishes that go against someone else (who didn't do anything to the psychic themself))

The Tricous/HOFT are honestly the coolest thing about Downtown to me even if I never played them. It's just so cool how it's treated like a hidden side quest, even further hidden with the townies having randomized names! shame about the missing family flags and other hiccups though... The HOFT also has that cool haunted house lighting effect!

Watching these videos retrospectively (post April Black video) is so interesting. To be fair I really like the cautious approach you had to all the corruption-related claims. It wasn't a black or white "this is corruption this is corruption this is a VBT this is also corruption!" There was definitely a lot of thought put into these videos and I can't wait for the Bluewater Village feature film :D I read your community posts every single week, I hope they don't stop after you're done! Also 55:13 - these sims are fine despite not having graves you say? It was all there, all along. We just didn't bother digging deeper.

Great video, this is really well researched. I knew the child ghosts were really glitchy but I didn't realise they could summon the witch doctor onto a lot that sounds really random lol. A lot of the really weird Sim glitches and relationship states between Sims reminds me of the time I was trying to make a mod to summon bartenders onto a lot for a video (tbf I didn't really know what I was doing,) and at one point everytime one of the summoned bartenders interacted with my playable Sim, they would end up married. It was so weird but nothing I did should have led to that happening or had anything to do with relationship flags, so I can see how weird unexpected things could sometimes happen.

I'm not in that part of the video yet, but It is not that random, tho c: It has an explanation in terms of game mechanics. As you know, when you invite a child into your house, at 19.00 one of the adults who lives in the child household comes to get them because it is too late. As ghost children are recognized as, well, still children... at night, one of the adults of their household will come to your house. And dead sims share the default household, which also contains universal sims such as Grim Reaper, Hula Zombie, Mrs. Crumplebottom, ect. That's why a ghost child can corrupt your game. Btw, I love your videos!

This definitely encourages me to play the Sims 2. I find pulling back the curtain and taking a look behind the scenes (or behind the game) is so fascinating. Seeing how such an ambitious game has its own quirks is always fun to me, especially older games.

Oddly enough I have the Ultimate Collection and I got both of the marriage bugs with both Nylissit and her sister (who's name keeps slipping me lmao). If I recally neither could even fall in love with their spouses, it was really odd. My way of fixing this was just giving them marriage flags and status in SimPE that seemed to do the job because after that everything seemed to work as it normally should.

I am glad you talked about the vampire crumplebottom glitch bc it's one of the first things I found when I looked at sims 2 corruption and it terrified me! also the conversation about child aspirations makes me think about a thread I found recently where people were worried sims 3 children rolling lifetime wishes was a sign of corruption like in sims 2, which is just interesting to me

What a great way to end 2021! I was actually getting "sim does not exist" errors in wants and fears (though this one only once) and relationships sections even with clean and empty templates. I wonder if it's just some weird data being generated while playing.

right - i get those in my pleasantview, and pretty much any neighbourhood. so for all we know it could be junk data that are totally harmless (albeit invalid). i’ve heard one explanation could be from downloading lots - residential or community - because things like sim information, relations, and scores can still linger even on unoccupied, unplaytested lots. but in the case of the downtown template, i imagine that’s not the reason lol. honestly i am still not completely sure what my stance is on these relationships and wants and fears in downtown. there’s evidence suggesting it’s sim deletion, but the errors can also occur through normal and safe gameplay like you mention. i think mootilda basically concluded that it could be down to normal game behaviour but we wouldn’t be able to know *why* it happens, not without access to the source code, anyway

hdjjdjdjd i never really thought anyone would pay much attention to how i source things to be honest. it’s mostly just so i can ensure everyone receives the proper credit for their discoveries, research, theories, information, etc. if i need to support what i’m saying with evidence. maybe it’s because i recently graduated from uni so it’s all still fresh in my mind, lol. though i think we used apa or something similar. halfway through this video i realised i’m using a lot more sources than before, and considered going back and making some clearer - i.e. if a screenshot is from the first sims wiki page on the list, then it would be cited as ‘- sims wiki (1)’, then the next page would be ‘(2)’, and so on. but it was really hard to retroactively organise the sources that way, and i was worried i would be inaccurate in my numbering if i did that - like i said, it’s really important to me that my sources are available in order to give as much credit as possible. so from the next video i will be doing that! i don’t know if that was interesting at all, but i wanted to share haha

I have just learned recently, that Downtown even has different pre-set night lighting graphics. I have been playing Sims 2 Ultimate collection since 2009 😄. In my uberhood I have realized early on that lots of vacation sims and I think even apartment life social class sims have SRELs with "known" checked. It sent me into a panic attack tbh, and online I couldn't find a good solution either, so I just decided to leave it and just use mods that prevent networking with those NPCs. I never even went to vacation with anyone in that hood, so the vacation townies never spawned anywhere.

one thing i noticed was, although the game is great and good without having to buy any packs. you do need A LOT of mods to play it properly. i recently got it pirated and i’m walking on eggshells while playing. it is an older game so it’s okay but you need to be so careful or else you’d literally die both in game and ur computer

I remember that years ago I was able to change Sims last name in SimPe into desired one. Now I don't remember how to do it properly. For example I don't want all children of Malcolm Landgraab IV and his wife to keep last name Landgraab IV . I prefer Malcolm V Landgraab and so on. Malcolm is premade Sim added in Open a Business EP and is hard to manage his household or keep legal marriage descendants because of that. How to fix this?

I know this is an 8 months old comment but modthesims has a portrait objects that is a last name changer. Used to love playing the Landgrab family and that’s how I used to edit the names.

Your videos are super informative! I’m hoping you might be able to help me out with a corruption problem. In playing Pleasantview, I had Darren Dreamer marry Cassandra Goth and then moved the household with Darleen’s urn in Darren’s inventory. Long story short, I seem to have accidentally deleted Darleen’s data and my neighborhood is now corrupted. Is there a way to use SimPE to correct this by somehow resetting Darleen, or will I need to reset the whole neighborhood? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
