I know it's played for laughs in this scene, but the fact that Roland realizes just how desperately Vanitas is in need of help and love is something that warms my heart as much as it broadens my grin. We all need a friend like Roland in our lives, as admittedly grating as their positivity can sometimes be, or we could end up in a very dark place, just like Vanitas.

He really does! Can't believe he does both Vanitas and Hawks from BNHA! 😂Also is it just me or does he almost sound like Zim from Invader Zim at 0:22? Just that voice crack lol, seriously though it's amazing he can do that on command and it really does add depth to the scene. I know often it's made fun of when a guy (or less commonly a girl) has their voice crack in fiction but I personally think it's a great subtle detail and voice actors that can do it on command ought to be lauded for it. Because yeah, voice crack = puberty haha so funny, but people's voices crack for other reasons too (like this scene, when yelling while under extreme duress, or trying to talk while crying). Not just guys but girls as well, our voices crack sometimes when under a lot of stress and for me I find it really just nails home how desperate and upset the character is.

Vanitas has always believed that his life was worthless, his mother died and his father didn't care about him much, he was taken by the Chasseurs then Moreau as a lab rat, he lived a decent life with Misha and Luna afterwards but they both left him. It's not very hard to believe that Vanitas dislikes himself (and the way his body looks after being forcefully transformed to a blue moon kin) so he tries to deny his feelings (of love or lust, we still don't really know). I hope that by the end of the story he learns to love himself and accept other people's love (Noé's, Jeanne's and hell even his other companions like Roland and Dante) and find true happiness

@Nodame I mean, we don't know whether Vanitas's father didn't care for him until the sacrifice. Vanitas only said that he got the feeling that his father didn't care for the other circus people.He didn't mention how his father took care of him and we have to remember he is only telling his backstory from his perspective and he believes himself to be unlovable because he blames himself for being the reason his mom died and assumed his father blamed Vanitas for his wife's death. He was questioning why his father protected him and hating the fact that he could never ask him and is just left with questions of whether his father did actually love him. We might revisit these flashbacks later to get the perspective from his father's side. And the Blue Moon Vampire and Misha didn't leave him. The Blue Moon Vampire (spoiler alert for the latest chapters) was turned into a curse bearer and Vanitas was forced to become part of the Blue Vampire Clan to kill them. And he didn't know that Misha survived that day and Misha even offered for Vanitas to join him to bring the Blue Moon Vampire to life and to kill him if he ever loses himself which Vanitas refuses and tells Misha that he wants Noé to be able to kill him. So Vanitas was more of the one that left Misha as they both have different paths they must go on.

@@nodame Ok, just making sure. Vanitas has low self-worth so he can't really see the good in himself or that other people in his past can love him (his father, the Blue Moon Vampire, Misha). Hopefully, the people currently in his life (Noé, Jeanne, Roland, Dante) can show that he does deserve to be loved and have love.

Roland is one the best written classic pragmatic paladin character I've seen. Never stops being someone who thinks he has it all figured out, is arrogant and a goody two shoes to his core. But also truly cares and believes in the good of the world and his sacred mission of helping people, making him likable and entertaining despite the usually annoying "extreme lawful-good" trope. Goes to show that good writing can make any stereotype endearing and fun
