Roland is one of my favorite characters in anime, I very rarely see a villain that so thoroughly despises the mc and friends, convinced that he was in the wrong and end up helping them. Made me strangely happy to see reasoning actually worked for once.

It was literally as simple as Roland having an open mind. He was brought up to believe vampires were all evil. When noe shows him something different, his genuinely curiosity makes him rethink his teachings and make his own decisions. His character ark is basically what we wish people on Twitter would do. The author was very good at making Roland look like an irritating puppet in the hands of the church, then he managed to completely reverse the situation. Roland alternates comic moments with very serious moments that make him look super cool! He is now one of my favorite characters in the series!
