Dr. Scott Rosa, who is doing compelling upper cervical chiropractic research, discusses his latest research in the area of neurodegenerative brain disease, cerebellar tonsillar ectopia (CTE), altered cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and arterial/venous flow dynamics and their correlation to the cranio-cervical junction and atlas misalignment.
Interview topics:
Introduction and research history
Mis-alignment at cranio cervical junction
Head-neck trauma
Cerebellar tonsillar ectopia (CTE)
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) obstruction
Neurodegenerative disease
IGAT - Image Guided Atlas Treatment
Atlas Orthogonal
Fonar MRI imaging
Pathology
Glymphatic System requires free flowing CSF
CSF flow patterns are similar in neurological disease patterns
Mechanical & structural compressions decrease arterial & venous blood flow
CSF impact on pituitary gland

Interesting that the scan shows a change of CSF flow so soon after correction. That fits with the way I felt following my first atlas correction.

I want to humbly suggest that anyone who experiences recurrent low lying cerebellar tonsils, syringomyelia, mis-alignment of the CC junction, AO etc. be evaluated for hypermobility. Even in the presence of a known precipitating trauma. Hypermobility runs in about 10% or more of the general population, though not all have trouble as a result that we know of yet. But I would especially examine those recurring sports injured patients... as a hypermobile patient myself (diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in 2012 at 45), I've become all too aware that we are essentially like "walking car accidents" even in the absence of much or any head/neck trauma. (I "loosened" my own head just biking on skinny tires a couple of years ago and going over too many bumps.) Our connective tissues are so weak that we can have loose heads and necks even in the absence of concussion, but especially in the presence of it or any whiplash or other stress or injury. In fact, it was a fellow patient with AO in a support group who tipped me off to this video. (Thanks Steph!) And also alert the good doctor(s) that there is a brand newly recognized (since March 2017) but still poorly known brand new diagnostic category called Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders, essentially "subclinical EDS" if you will, and covers the less bendy among us. Many of whom probably run around and play sports like soccer and American football etc. (We are an active lot until our bodies betray us.) I have friends who are literally trying to keep their good heads on their shoulders as I type this, but who did nothing more than ride a roller coaster in their youth. It's an easy thing to see and screen for. (Google "flying bird hand sign", or see my When Else to Suspect page below.) Even if they don't have a form of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, or an HSD, it could explain why they are so easily injure or re-injure in some cases. (We also have comorbid endocrine imbalances and so much more, all readily explained by the "corking" you described, along with tethered cord.) Also, our community is finding upright (functional) MRI to be vital to diagnosing these problems as you have, as well as the even newer digital moving x-ray technology I'm sure you've heard about. That said, we do require great care under surgery, as our tissues are quite fragile, and don't suture the same as "normal" people's, and we can have major "allergic" like reactions to the anesthetics and the procedure itself thanks to commonly comorbid Mast Cell Activation Diseases or disorders. There is a big overlap here. Hypermobility patients are much more prone to these malalignments, and getting the malalignment to stay corrected is much harder. However correcting the malalignment is still essential for recovery.

what can be done to treat hypermobility?
@NonyaSmith

@@HCRHSHH Supposedly something called prolotherapy. I really don't know if its legit, but there are tons of video testimonials on the Caring Medical YT channel from the chiropractors patients. This guy has been doing this dextrose injection therapy into laxed ligaments in the neck (and elsewhere) for a long time with success in his patients.

Jan Droid how have you been doing since? Have you done surgery ?
@JanGroh
@JanGroh 3 жыл бұрын
@@HCRHSHH I"m fine, as I both a) stopped biking so much, and b) take 6000/day Vitamin C plus 1000/day Magnesium (I'm lucky to tolerate both as well as I do) and have for seven years. These have served to help tighten up my neck again as my tendons and ligaments re-strengthened about 40% since my onset cascade in 2012 that got me diagnosed. I'm not "cured", but managed. I also avoid things that would loosen my head or neck as much as possible now, so no surgery needed. (I wore a collar for a bit too.) Others aren't so lucky, even without biking or accidents. (I know several who are nearly internally decapitated just from "living" with EDS.) Tough sitch.

Dr Rosa did initial evaluation of my sons MRI though. It was around 150$. He found the problem. But a local ao doc did the procedure in texas.
