@@sole__doubt Larry made Seinfeld to reflect his own life as a comedian what it's like to be a comedian and use things in common life that then create the standup routines. In Seinfeld, Jerry looks to make a show... about himself. Twice. Then In Curb Your Enthusiasm, a show about being Larry David, Larry is now pitching a show to networks... about himself. I like all of it but damn its narcissistic, which is the point, which makes it even more narcissistic.

Although improvisation does play a big role, you forgot to mention that the outlines are also well written. LD has written a setup and a punchline for each scene that the actors can improvise upon; they just flow more naturally than a Seinfeld episode but the brilliance in his writing is still there, controlling his actors as puppets for his own joke. That's why I liked the early seasons of Curb more. He frequently used people who weren't really professional actors who could still pull off their improvised scenes, and that is largely indebted to how Larry wrote the outline.

@@denagustafson6070 I liked the earlier seasons because of the utterly absurd plotlines namely the Jason Alexander show, the Mel Brooks play, the Richard Lewis needs a kidney, the Seinfeld reunion, the Black family, and even though they were ridiculous, the humor wasn't ham-fisted. The humor in the newer seasons 9-11 seem forced, like Larry David becoming a parody of himself.

I've always loved Curb because watching you can feel David using comedy as art, to dissect life. Some sitcoms are just to cram jokes in, Curb feels like that is secondary. Doesn't mean it's not hilarious, but you can tell it's a genius at work.

The unscripted nature of Curb makes sense, as many character’s lines (especially Cheryl’s) sound as if they’re wracking their brains, trying to come up with something. It's awesome. Cheryl has quite a few moments: “There’s something... strange...happening.” “It’s a divorce, so... start... packin’ up... ‘cause you’re movin’ out.” I love Larry’s unapologetic quip to Heidi about “the sorry window”. Easily the more imaginative , crazy and hilarious sitcom/comedy show we've ever seen. The spontaneity is addictive, and becomes cringe-worthy as people guess how the characters should/would/ eventually react . It's everyman with outrageous commentary on real human nature, what we think, and what we feel, with most of us concurring with the results, but too reticent to do and say the same things in real life. I think the Honeymooners comes closest to true imaginative unscripted comedy- as that wonderful show was filmed LIVE with no second chances!

This show feels so much more real than other shows. I guess the fact it's improvised is why, because it's literally just people talking, not reciting lines

I Love this show i think what makes curb so special is that it works without one, Larry David go through these situations make it both funny and relatable! And the fact that the actors are improving makes it unbelievable and hilarious because you wonder what there gonna say next!

Coming from a big Seinfeld fan, Last 2 seasons without him (LD) are garbage imo, track laughs all over the place, it became another "friends", just another 4 morons whining about their dates as George or LD described it

Nah, if you watch enough documentaries or all the commentaries for the dvd set you learn all the seasons with Larry....he definitely had a team of tremendous writers who were mostly gone by the time they did the last couple seasons after Larry left. Jerry included, but Jerry kinda needed all those other supporting writers. And of course, the cast was perfection. Larry definitely did not carry that show. There was a lot of unsung heroes that helped make that show great

Curb is a million times better than Seinfeld. Seinfeld is just annoying compared to Curb.

I strongly disagree with the line that TV Larry "hates" everybody except those in his inner circle. He hates human behaviour (and that definitely includes those within his inner circle as well) but in my opinion he's almost always right. But the way he deals with it is not good. He just can't let anything go. This is just the funniest show.

I agree!! Larry is usually thinking the same thing we all are about human nature, rude annoying things people do/unspoken social rules, and political correctness. He just goes far and can never just let things go lol. Love this show so much.

I never knew that Curb was mostly enthusiasm (admittedly, I’ve only watched two or three episodes). Now I do, it’s sort’ve added an extra layer of hilarity to the whole thing, knowing most of it is being thought up on-the-fly.

During Covid I binged Seinfeld, enjoyed it but didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to, started a few episodes of curb and really liked it, then when Leon was introduced it became a top 5 sit com for me.
