Congrats man. Well done. The bike changed (and maybe even saved) my life about 15 years ago and is continuing to do so today. In the summer of 2019 I rode my bike across the the continental US from the Mexico to Canadian border thru the states of NM, CO, WY, & MT with my then 14 year old son. We carried all our own food and camping gear and slept under the stars most nights. The route was over 2,000 miles, 90% off-pavement, and took us 48 days. Definitely a highlight of my life, and I hope my son's too.

I still don't get what it is with some people who think that their existence depends on how many people they can attempt to dominate over such trivial things as what clothes or what bike others may have/use to get outside. Actually, that's one of the main reasons I stopped riding with groups. Might revisit that but, for now, I'm having too much fun riding on my own. Not saying that's for everyone. It just works for me. Moral of the story - do what works for you and don't worry about what others may think. Now, go ride your bike.

I’ve had people on KZbin tell me my bike sucks or I’m a dummy for riding a gravel bike on road. How I’m not supposed to ride flat pedals, etc. but that doesn’t bother me at all. That’s the internet. However, I never felt that negativity in person thankfully. If I did I certainly would just ride alone. As I said everyone I met so far has been fabulous 😊 Ride what you want, how you want. Biking is a stress relief. I don’t want nooo drama with anyone. Yups, let’s ride! Thank you.

I stopped smoking on Friday the 13th, June, 1986. Going through withdrawal the first night, I took my '71 Schwinn Sports Tourer down from the garage ceiling hooks, disassembled it down to the crank bearings and rebuilt it during the sleepless, jangly night. Saturday morning, I went on my first organized ride, a 10 miler to a country restaurant and back. I went in Levi's . . . no helmet. In 1988, when I was 46, I was a CAT III. Next summer, our oldest daughter and I will do a round trip from Pgh to D.C. I just updated my '80's rides to a Santa Cruz Bronson, a LOOK 795 and a Co-Op ADV 2.2. Endorphins and maybe a toke in the evening once in a while. Drugless is a mellow ride.

That's an inspiring video. regarding the legs and feet: they are the farthest away from the heart and the veins and lymph vessels don't have their own muscles. Your riding has has improved the drainage by the pumping effect of the leg muscles on those vessels. after a workout I like to rest on my back with the feet up on a wall and shaking the legs. That too gets the drainage going and makes a huge difference for me. I learned a lot about the body from videos by Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Sten Ekberg, Dr. Westman, Dr. Ken Berry and a few more. No one knows everything. But these guys are doing the education that the regular doc doesn't have the time to do. Keep going!

@chris453614 күн бұрын
Living in a heavy snow area, fat bikes have their place when conditions are softer. Just for getting out and riding/commuting all you need are good studded tires. I run Schwable Ice Spiker Pro on my 29" full sus and they are THE best purchase I've made for year round biking! You can't quite ride all the trails all of the winter, but between storms when the trails are groomed, firm and compacted - you can still get out and have a huge smile on your face and keep the wheels turning! An amazing way to overcome the challenge of icy surfaces that will feel like a superpower! This is my fourth winter with the same set and while they have worn somewhat, the studs are easily removed with needle nose pliers and fresh ones can be inserted with a special hand tool and some rubbing alcohol as a lube. Try em out!!! ❤

Awesome to hear your thoughts on riding to improve your life. 100% agree. I got back into riding during Covid and started bike touring. Last summer I did a 1,300 mile bike tour on an old mountain bike that I converted to do bike touring. It's amazing what it can do for a person, inside and out. Regarding your plan to 'upgrade' to a road bike, I would personally only do that if there is a real reason as to why you don't like something about your current bike. Upgrading for it's own sake is just falling into marketing hype, and you don't seem like the kind of guy that would do that.

You can always enter races for fun. You don't have to be at the top, just try to complete them. Those endurance ones are fun with a group, or solo, and your target may just be, survive this thing in 6 hours, or less. Crits however, are not races you enter for fun (some do). It's not about competing with others, rather yourself, and see if you can do better next time. @@markahles1580 I'm with this. But, if they're generally concerned I appreciate it. Personally, I don't care what other people do. If someone asks me why I'm not wearing I just smile, agree and move on. Maybe I'll pay for it someday. Maybe I won't. But the choice is mine.

The safety benefits of helmets have been massively exaggerated by the manufacturers for obvious reasons, a bit like the climate change narrative, there is a financial advantage to push it upon others, but I agree it's slightly safer to wear one than not, personally I dont and they look ridiculous.

Here is a tip its not what brand you ride its how it fits you that counts imo i will ride a huffy if fitted proper over a trek that is 2 sizes to big etc. In biking its the small things that matter most time money does not always win in this game

@RockEastwood - Can I ask how much do you ride everyday? And what do you do for recovery. Because I am sure you are sore if you are riding more than an hour everyday.

I don’t really get sore after rides nor do I think about recovery to be honest. I try to ride daily about 1 hour but sometimes work gets in the way. Short days really put a strain on what I wish I could ride, so I go when I can this time of year. I started doing night rides but it’s been in the teens lately. That’s rough. Try to push myself more in ‘25

Haha. I didn’t mean to be offensive. I meant “crazy” like I don’t know how they do it. No meat is pretty hardcore in my book. They don’t want meat, it’s cool. More for me! 😊
