I read Batman & Robin from when Grant Morrison started it, to when Tomasi and Gleason wrapped it up and knocked it out of the park. Damian's story was a wild ride and I was hanging on every single issue. I emplore everyone to read both Volumes of Batman & Robin (with the 2 Volumes of Batman inc. As great side material). From seeing the Dick Grayson/Damian tag team as the new Batman & Robin, to the return of Doctor Hurt, and the ressurection of Bruce Wayne, Bruce having to learn how to be a father to a child who was taught to be an assassin, Damian having to learn to how to work with and love his father, each pet that Damian acquires, the Joker being creepy as fuck, Batman dealing with the grief of losing his son (issue 18 of Batman & Robin vol. 2 has no dialog at all and is heartwrenchingly beautiful), every issue after that being a team up between Batman and a different DC character as he goes through all the stages of mourning, the return of Two-face arc that (while mangled by DC editorial) has an ending you will never see coming, the hunt for Robin, and so much more. It is truly one of my favorite eras in comics and changed the status quo of Batman forever. Everyone should really read it for themselves and enjoy the ride.

Plus Zack made the point that Batman was deluding himself into thinking he was not "killing people" they just "happened to be in the way", it's a jaded Batman after 20 years of crimefighting and no progress made. Like he tells Alfred, they've always been criminals. Batman's lost his moral compass in BvS, and it's only toward the end when he finds the humanity inside Clark Kent does he find his own humanity and conscience. Also, Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns uses guns and fan boys don't lose their stupid minds over that. It's one of the most celebrated stories of the Batman mythos. Same book Batman kills Joker, notice the death of Joker the speech bubbles are all grey. The entire series, Batman's own inner dialogue is grey, spoken dialogue is in white speech bubbles. Joker never "talks" when Batman kills him, it's Batman not wanting to believe it and "talking" for Joker.
