To clarify: the D-beam light controller on the Roland handsonic is more for midi CC type stuff, so pitch bends, filter sweep, other FX, etc, of the current sound, rather than to trigger a note. Same thing was on some of their 'grooveboxes'. Kinda works like a 'light theremin' effect controller. When Danny mentions the "program called battery" in that quote it's Native Instruments Battery, the VST Drum Sampler plugin. So he goes up and down Battery patches between songs to change all the mandala pads. :)

Hi, I was curious about using an 'acoustic hi-hat ' with my Roland TD 25K V-tour. I'm wondering though would the hi-hat be too loud? I live in a house, but I have family that I do not want to annoy. I have seen a wraparound thingy (forgot what it's called) but it's supposed to really soften the sound, but still be load enough without annoying people around you. Any thoughts? Thanks. BTW, been subbed and watching now for around 3 months. Great job.

I see his h-hat is center forward, between the two rack toms and the two crashes on the same stand. Does he just leave the hat set to semi-open? Great vid. I've had a love/hate relationship with Alesis stuff for decades....

S.W. Wilcox That center mounted hi hat is actually on a remote stand, so he can mount the Cymbals on a separate stand and still keep the pedal next to his left kick pedal. He can still control the hats. Hope this helps!

Regarding the korg Wavedrum, it's also likely that they made it significantly cheaper and shitier now.
@rajasarapi80825 жыл бұрын
Withe respect, more affordable and not as old school analog maybe, but unless you've played the new models, your opinion is not helpful. I own 2, WDs (the X and Global Edition) and can clearly say that even with it's shortcomings (no MIDI or USB memory saves for user presets), it is the finest DYNAMIC PERCUSSION SYNTH available. Tha MANDALAS (Mahn-dah-lah) drums are a great pad/computer invention, but I've been waiting YEARS for them to be available, they've been saying hopefully soon for V.3... for 3 years!
@BullyMaguire4ever4 жыл бұрын
michaelstephen86 That is true. The original is more deluxe and they are really expensive. Also the Korg Wavedrum is synthesis based, not samples. In the video he says something about samples, when talking about it.

It may be interesting and of note that the Simmons sdx kit he used to use was and still is the most expensive electronic drum set ever produced. Some 12-20,000$ and the old korg wavedrum was a 3000$ drum in 1993-94. Still they fetch tidy sums of money. And while not to take away from the pride or enjoyment of owning any newer version of korgs wavedrum, (I have 4 plus the original) they are not of the same caliber as the original. Of course their cost is less than 1/6 of the original. The mandala pads now those have 128 zones center to edge then split into up to 7 higher dimensions,if you will. V2.9 can have up to 6. Where each zone is comprised of a portion of the 128 of which can in turn be used to effect parameters. Compared to Roland's 2 is quite something. Also now he's using version V3 Mandala pads which also have the 128 but can be split into as many as only 3. However with V3 each of the 9 sides,it's nine sided, is a separate trigger. Giving it 12 zones. Quite amazing gear. They are working on a "module" version. They say. Just thought that was relative to emphasizing how awe inspiring understanding this kit can be. That's not to mention the Paiste custom molded bronze kit. I think his kit tree is said to be worth some 70,000$ !! Anyway thanks... Great videos!

If it had been anybody else in the world except for maybe Neil Peart trying to explain electronic drums I would have said bulshit but here is a great example of a traditional musician and a technically excellent musician using new technology in a good way he is just using the technology for total changes he's not using the technology to produce something that he cannot play or sound like other than tonality it's no different than using a goatskin on your drums as opposed to alligator skin different tones no comparison to that that tuning tool that keeps you in key whether you can sing or not where they record 30 tracks of your vocals so people think your voice is that thick and then as soon as you try to do that live produced that live you can't do it and you'll have to lip-sync to recorded music like they do that is horrible Danny uses electronic instruments as they should be used only four tonal quality. I'm sure the Young people out there don't get it you know how I pray to God they would I remember the first time I heard a Moog synthesizer in a popular song for me it was Herbie Hancock chameleon I loved it love the sound of it but if I had a known that from that electronic beginning we were going to get to the Milli Vanilli and style over substance in music I would have never been a fan of it but unfortunately like most technology man finds a way to abuse it it's sad it has to be that way but it does have to be that way Forever Young Living yang Furby good thing we get from technology we get A Milli Vanilli for some greedy bastard that doesn't care about music doesn't care about culture or our but he knows he can make $1000000 if he invents a machine that will keep your voice in tune or he knows that he can sell a million recordings of NWA saying f*** the police in 1986 your manager the Heeb that that supported them they put them out there that they would be no NWA that wasn't for this Jew guy he could give about a hell about the state of Black America but he knew he could make some money off them niggars and we're too stupid to see the art form that were throwing away that was uniquely American for this fake genocidal fad they call hip Hop. We should be ashamed of ourselves and it's a sin before God and I'll just end with saying God Bless America
