I’m 17 I still believe in the old school way that my dad taught me and my older brothers. No matter if you are dating or not always go to the door and walk down to the car with them. I always bring flowers for my girlfriend and open the door for her and treat her as she should be any chance I get I’ll try and have a relationship that’s not all tech. I also make sure she is ok with it all as well and most importantly she’s comfortable with the state of the relationship. We are the ones in control of this and this is a sad reality that relationships have changed into this (Edit:Thank you for all the sweet comments and likes really appreciate it)

Once dated a guy that came to my house, sat down with my dad and chatted. He then asked if he could take me out on a date.. My dad said as long as we take my little sister. So we went and he paid for me and my sisters meal. Dad never forgets him, he made a great impression on him. He continued to pursue me but unfortunately I was depressed and not in the right mindset. His sister was also my one of my bestfriends from the military and he and I were still in those first stages where I could choose not to continue. I already knew I wasn't a healthy person to be with at the time and I did not want to put my sister (friend) in an awkward position. Tragically, he went missing and was pronounced dead 😢 I'll never forget the way he treated me and how he was so kind to me when I was so lost and broken 💖 Definitely set the standard xo
@winexhd9373
@winexhd9373 8 ай бұрын
Just so you know, he didn't need to, nor should you expect to (if you are about having fair standards anyways) the same. There are men out there who are treated by women in this following way. They have great careers (doctors, lawyers, nurses, etc.), who cook, clean, everything, even pay for their man for his shopping. Suppose his name is Adam. He has a doctor girl friend, who cooks, cleans, everything, plus has s3x whenever he wants. Somehow his gf dies. So he goes out to the dating world again. He looks at women mingling around, he looks at you. You tell him what you'll do what you can't, he calls you a disgusting piece of sh*, "below standard you are". How does that make you feel? Could you blame him, she set the standard. What I did here is I created a fictional male version of you. Bless his heart, but his first mistake was selecting you. Believe it or not, I am not your enemy. The thing is when a lot of men do these things for women, they become more and more entitled. This may have evolutionary, biological roots here. We all do actually. We remember what we give, and what we owe. It is built into our biology from what I have read. The thing is that if a man (or any human being) gives and gives "gifts", there is that biological impulse to want back. This is why women are bewildered by stories of men who harass women after the men gave "gifts", women take these "gifts", and get attacked after a rejection. And even though men should check their entitlement, these expectations are present due to men and women. It is kind of funny and sad to see women go protests on "men's entitlement" then proceed to stick to social norms that create the cycle of "men's entitlement". I know what you want to say. Men shouldn't give gifts if they expect a non-rejection. While I agree with you logically, the biology works with a different set of logical rules. On one hand, men should give gifts only if there are no conditionals, but men are expected to give gifts to be eligible. See how it creates the cycle of abuse?

My sophomore teacher told all us girls that if a man texts you to pick you up, don’t respond, just sit in your house and wait until he comes to the door.
@winexhd9373
@winexhd9373 8 ай бұрын
I don't think that is fair advice. Suppose there was a man who was equal everything, cooks, cleans, chores in the house, works, respect boundaries. But you applied your nonsensical rule and you lost him. Suppose there was a traditionally masculine and abusive man. He went up, you'll respond? Not replying to text is rude. That man brought his car to your doorstep. The least you can do you entitled puck is to be there when he gets there. Do you think car works on love? Why is he paying for the gas? It is like you think equality is a buffet, that you get to pick the nice things. Women of the past were treated better, maybe. But those women also gave a lot too. Cooking and cleaning was all on women, no equal share. Women had a role and they played it. They sacrificed their careers. So it made sense that men would care in a deeper way. Do those things that those ladies used to do and you will maybe get that guy. But if you want to talk about equality, no gender roles, but then expect him to adhere to his roles, what type of logic is that? Make it make sense.

@@winexhd9373 There wasn't a need to be mean, she just said what her teacher told them I think you could either text him at the same that you feel it's more appropriate for him to come up to the door, orr better still fit me, I'd say at least the first time, you could go meet him out, and while you're together, bring it up and talk about it. Sitting on the couch and ignoring because he didn't automatically know isn't any better than him texting So we all have roles to play in making our relationships work, some majors of those roles being love and consideration
@francookie9353
@francookie9353 8 ай бұрын
@@winexhd9373 I think I understand what you're getting at, but this seems like the wrong hill to die on. Yes, gender equality etc. etc. but the innocent magic of old school chivalry still works today. Especially in the early dating phase. Plus, she might not look at her phone. Might actually not have seen the text. She's spent time and energy on being pretty and put together, walking the few meters to the door is such low effort but it makes you feel special. Holding a door open isn't necessary, but it makes you feel cared for. Flowers aren't survival essentials, but they make you feel thought of.

@@sofiabravo1994 um yeah it is actually.... If women want actual equality. You don't get special treatment and equal treatment at the same time. The whole comments section of this video shows just how much women still expect to receive all the privileges of traditional romance without any of the downsides, and also that too many men are willing to continue holding up their end of traditional romance without receiving any of the upsides of that tradition. Women don't want equality. They just want to have their cake and eat it too. If you want actual equality, then you need to be taking him on dates too, picking him up too, bringing him some kind of gift (could be flowers, could be a pack of beef jerky), and you need to be paying for him on dates sometimes too. If I see women doing those things, then and only then will I believe women when they say they want actual equality.

But it's not about the times. Now, if you want to put in the effort, you get out of the car and ring the bell anyway. Then, if you didn’t want to put in the effort, you just honked. It's the people, not the year.

This is so sad I wish I lived in the 80s and 90s so hopefull a man would treat me this way. I walked by a group of boys one time and they where all looking at one of thems phone and said tell her to send ass pics, what happens to our guys in society where they had respect for woman and where actually gentlemen

Thank you so much guys for highliting this issue ❤ it is sad, be it’s us who created it. Hopefully still can turn around, at least in lives of some people who believes this is the right way

It can't be turn around unless women and men act like that before. The argument is pretty principle. Men acted that certain way (open doors, go up knock, meet the dad, care about woman walking, opening doors, paying meals) because women acted that way (feminine, submissive, took most of household chores, took most of domestic duties, conservative norms, etc.). Women don't act that way anymore, therefore men don't act that way. Statistics show us that women have more freedom, and greater gender equality compared to the "good old times". At what cost? At this cost. This is part of the cost.

First date I ever had when I got my first car I did text her I was there, but went to the front door the proper way as I was taught it left a better impression that even though it didn't work out, when I see her family around town they see me as a proper young man like I was taught to be. Small things go a long way

This can work in modern life too. Get the love that you deserve and communicate with your person, they need to come to the door or you’re not going.

3x girl dad here...dated in the 80's and 90's. I refuse to allow my girls to leave the house for ANYONE that does not come to the door first. They are NOT picking up my baby girls like a cheap trick on the street corner somewhere...one fucker actually leaned on the horn in my driveway...his expression changed real fast when I opened the front door and showed him my 12-gauge being loaded...
