How David Dobrik Made (and Broke) Jason Nash

Jason Nash has gone from David Dobrik vlogs to TikTok begging. After David Dobrik was chased off of KZbin, Jason Nash struggled to find his footing as a solo act. Even on his early days of Vine, Jason Nash was able to lean on creators like Brandon Calvillo. But now on his own, Jason Nash has become best known for begging for money on TikTok. And the response to that is... predictable.
This is a video essay detailing Jason Nash's career from Vine, to David Dobrik's vlogs, to TikTok Livestreaming.

I can't feel sorry for them considering the opportunity they were given in the first place and the fact that they didn't take full advantage of the wealth and assumed through their hubris it would last forever.

Jason Nash did it to himself. He's old enough and has been in the industry long enough to know that Nothing Lasts Forever. He should've been saving money, selling the extravagant gifts and pocketing the profits, and hiring a financial advisor to keep his finances straight and to teach him how to be fiscally responsible. During his time with the Vlog Squad, he should've been networking outside of the pond he swam in and picked up skills such as Editing and Camerawork during the hours of helping (Enabling) David. Once it hit the fan (or rather Jeff hit the excavator), he should've spoken up against David, genuinely apologized to the people (Trisha, Seth...) he hurt and shown a backbone, opening the door to collab with people who still liked him/were indifferent to him while creating an identity as a solo Creator, cultivating a fanbase of his own. If all of that failed, he should've left the Internet, DOWNSIZED, and focused on acting or even gone to school, especially in the trades like HVAC or just being a stay at home dad. And left LA behind. Actors don't necessarily have to live in LA to make it and other cities have much lower costs of living. There was so much that he should've done but didn't and what truly keeps me from feeling bad for him is the ENTITLEMENT. The Entitlement is Gross and Real. Until he humbles himself and faces reality, I can't and won't feel bad for him. I feel bad for his wife and kids.

Also agree what you said about if he spoke up about the accident and did the right thing but no he clung to David who dropped him the second he didn’t need him anymore. The fact that David can’t be bothered to do one podcast a week w Jason to set him up for success is INSANE to me. He is such a fucking narcissist. I hate David dobrik so much now. Pice of shit

Great point. Personally, I think he should take his experience to the corporate/management side of content creation. There are huge agencies in LA that manage and work with KZbinrs and TikTokers. David is, most certainly, on the Cluster B spectrum, to some degree, for sure. And I, also, 100% agree.. He isn’t the kind of guy to retaliate to his enemies. He’s the kinda guy that doesn’t care, about his enemies (unless he has to protect himself and his assets). All the damage happens to the people closest to him - because he studies ‘em, and knows how to manipulate them. I don’t think David has deliberate bad intentions. He has a bottom line, and he is willing to use his friends to do whatever it takes, to achieve that bottom line. They are a means to an end. Whatever that takes. If anything, I’d say that would put him on the psychopathy spectrum - which, shouldn’t be conflated with sociopathy or narcissism (yes, co-morbidities exist, however, I don’t believe that’s the case, with David. He is far too calculated).

@Merilly 6 ай бұрын
@@tkokflux6322 I disagree with you on the part that people are doing this because of his age. They're not. Few people appreciate people begging those who have way less than them for money, regardless of age. And the reason age is brought up at all is because he is using it as an argument against him getting a normal job like the rest of us to pay his bills. He is spinning the narrative that he is too old to even learn a new set of skills to get a job when in reality, he isn't. That does not mean I condone him getting harassed or swatted of course. He doesn't deserve that. But he does deserve the criticism he receives for now trying to leech off of other people who can't even make what he made in 2 months in a year. People are just not appreciative of those who've had much more success squandering their money and then begging people, mostly those on the young side who may never be able to even afford a house, for money. Other content creators at least provide content after those they stuck with for fame leave but he just begs for money. That deserves criticism because he isn't a poor, homeless person on the street who often don't even have the means to break out of it. But he does have means. He just doesn't want to downsize after no longer being able to uphold his previous living standard and kinda hopes he will find another stand in content creation. Which he could, but then he actually needs to produce content. At first, people tend to be sympathetic to people having lost their primary source of income. But that wanes when someone spends hours begging for money on TikTok instead of finding a job or actually trying to do something else than pointless antics. He could produce content but it seems he doesn't want to put in the effort. He could at least try to find something to do other than beg. It's not like older people can't be successful on KZbin nowadays. Heck, even some people in their 60s are sometimes starting channels doing what they like and finding decent or even a ton of success doing that.

Yes, David is a HORRIBLE person who used Jason, that's true. And Jason is being unfairly bullied, yes. But I cannot feel bad for him. This is not a man who is having to choose between feeding his kids and paying rent. He's not being forced to work 3 jobs like millions of single moms. He's so far removed from most people's reality that he thinks not having the nicest model of a God**mn Tesla means that he's poor and having to settle for an "average car". For God's sake, one of the reasons he gave for returning his other Telsa is the "Give me anything I want" button is broken. It's pathetic. He lives in an INCREDIBLY nice place in LA with a gorgeous wife. This guy couldn't even comprehend what real struggle is. You're losing your house? Go to McDonald's. No "skills" required. He's a spoiled dude who's baseline for normal is 10,000X better off than I, or the vast majority of people could ever hope for.

Gotta say man, you really do have a unique flavour when it comes to your videos; the KZbin commentary meta has a "vibe" to it that it feels like a lot of people are gravitating to, making a lot of it feel "samey" - I don't get that feeling from your stuff. You're nuanced, you get into the weeds, you take things seriously, you're fairly charitable to everyone, you're harsh when you need to be but also compassionate when it's called for (often to the same person) - I don't know if anyone else has quite this mix. I also like that you seem to do your best to think for yourself - that can be difficult to do when it leads you to positions that differ from your in-group, and it feels like you actively work to avoid that bias. I've been trying to do that myself over the last few years, so maybe it's just projection (lol), but I feel like I can see some of that in your work. Always looking forward to more from you - keep up the great work my dude.

As much as I dislike David, this is not his responsibility. He already made Jason a shit ton of money through the vlogs only for Jason to flush that down the drain by being a shit spender. I could understand if he was becoming homeless or could no longer feed his kids that David could go help him out, but other than that, it's not up to him. Ofcourse the videos he makes, making fun of Jason are tasteless, but then Jason needs to just cut ties with him. It's not like he "needs" David, since that isn't helping him right now either.
