I was just a kid when I saw Van Halen the first time. But 40 years later I still recall a classic DLR line from the very early in the show. After the first song Dave was being Dave, talking and joking with 15k rabid Memphians, and he told a story about a hot chick he'd met earlier that day, and he lowered his voice, put the mic right on his lips and uttered "This amazing creature was walking toward me wearing pants so tight I could count the change in her pocket." Then he threw a karate high kick and they blasted into "Beautiful Girls." I get chill bumps to this day!! There will NEVER be another Diamond David Lee Roth - THE greatest frontman I've ever seen!

It’s not normal to be a rockstar, Dave was one of the biggest and most iconic while also very controversial because of his big personality and Van Halen feuds. It’s pretty difficult to have the world analyze you and judge you, put your youth on a pedestal for you and talk about how you as a person have “fallen” since. The reality is, Dave’s impact on music and culture changed the game and he did what most artists fear to do and that’s to be himself. He was an innovator, him and Eddie. To hit the notes he hits past his 20s and 30s is unlikely, the bar is too high and the drugs/alcohol did their damage. Either way, he still brings his A game and entertains. People can make fun of hair loss or a guy in his 60s still taking his shirt off on stage, but I’d rather have that than Dave hide who he is. You pay to see David Lee Roth, this is him. Lounge singer or whatever, he does what he loves and that’s we ever loved him. I celebrate this guy for being a hard worker, a businessman, an artist, and someone who is kind enough to offer his wisdom to others. You can tell he’s still passionate and he’s been humbled with time.

That concept of “banking” I think all creatives do it, but listening to him, sounds like he’s done it consistently and obsessively and hasn’t stopped. Such a great concept. I’m a creative, but not on this man’s level. I bank and stop and start when i am trying to reignite my passions. You can hear his appreciation and passion for the treasures he’s collected when he talked about that “save the fork honey, there’s pie”. Loves this clip.

Solid advice from DLR. I've always liked his lyrics. There was always a little twist. He's right that so many bands treat the lyrics as secondary. Though I loved and love 80s rock music, much of the lyrics sound like bad high school poetry. Don't care much for 90s grunge/alternative music, but at least the lyrical content was given a bit more consideration.

It really is. It's captivating. The phrase "hanging on his every word" comes to mind. My favourite part is how you get the feeling that, despite his obsession with DMT and just about being able to handle hosting a podcast with Alex Jones for over 4 hours, even Joe Rogan knows he's out of his depth here somehow and doesn't know what to make of what's going on. With Alex Jones he kept some sort of order, but here he seems to just be a passenger for large stretches. It has that subtle rather than overt strangeness you get from something like Twin Peaks where you sometimes just can't quite place what's so off about it, and that makes it more intense.

Love Dave. Yes absolutely, I write down song lines /titles/ ideas all the time. Sometimes they finish themselves instantly. Sometimes just 3 words phrases sit for years then something comes back to wake them up and complete them.

Highly intelligent guy. What a life he’s lived. Iconic dude, full of stories we wish we were part of a little lol If he were to write a book about his life adventures and escapades, it’d be a best seller. He sure demands your attention when conversing with. Don’t dare ignore Dave!!

There's three types of people who I kind of want or expect to be "cocky" Jet fighter Pilots, Gunslingers, and front men lead singers for rock bands, Cockyness is not necessarily arrogance as so much as confidence in one's ability, So yeah DLR a.k.a Diamond Dave not cubic zirconia Dave or opal Dave it;s diamond Dave for a reason.

Eddie was Incredible and the Greatest Rock Guitarist of All Time... then Dave , The Greatest Front Man of a Rock Band .... Plus his Personality rubbing off all around Eddie.. what a Great Band.... I can't believe Eddie is Gone.. tho He will Never be forgotten. Thanks for all the Music and Making All the Good Times Better !
