I am hooked on this program. I really like the conversation about all things garden🌻. I’m learning more and more. Yes, it’s true we learn much through gardening trial and error, but anytime I can learn from other’s experiences is invaluable. You two are very enjoyable to listen to. I’m glad I found you. Btw, I am a true fan of PW as well. When I see those white pots I get excited 🌺. Thanks for a great and informative show.

I grow many of my clematis on shrub roses and my Rose of Sharon. I have the best luck growing the viticella (group 3) clematis because they are less prone to wilt.

Too funny - when she said "aesthetic" and pronounced it "astetic" I subconsciously found myself saying it to myself adding the "th" in the pronunciation. I wonder how many times we all do that in a day and don't even realize it! Anyway, good info, I'm getting my PW Clematis in the ground this week 💚

How do you shade the roots when they're in a sunny spot?
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice Жыл бұрын
Great question! You can plant shorter plants around the area where your clematis is planted to help provide some shade, the easiest way is to have a good 2-3" layer of mulch on top of where you have it planted 🙂

How do you get rid of Clematis that is volunteering everywhere? The garden has 'volunteers' everywhere...front and back yards. The clematis in our yard is not fragile...it's like a bull in a China shop. We would like to get rid of it. Garden is in Maryland near Baltimore. Thanks.
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice Жыл бұрын
That would be sweet autumn clematis, C. paniculata, sometimes also known as Clematis ternifolia. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do to control it, other than to remove it and replace it with Clematis virginiana, a North American native species that is similar in looks and fragrance but blooms earlier: www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=clvi5. It can also self-sow but is more manageable. You can also give the vines a light trim after they finish blooming to remove the forming seedheads, but they should save major pruning for spring. I hope this helps!

I thought you use lime to make it alkaline.
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice Жыл бұрын
That is true! However, Rick and Stacey agree don’t add the lime. Clematis are no different from the majority of the other cultivated plants in your garden in that they thrive in slightly acidic conditions. They prefer a pH level of 6.5, where the plants absorb the maximum nutrients from the soil. One of the world’s largest producers of clematis grows his plants in a medium with a pH level of 5.5, and they suffer no adverse effects.
