Ultimately, no one won that day. While the Death Guard lost the fight, Hive Fleet Lotan lost something even worse; the biomass. Despite winning the fight, the Hive Fleet lost countless drones, soldiers, spores, and even a ship. None of which could be reclaimed. They traveled all the way there for less than nothing.

Theres only been one time I've heard of Nurgle-infected Tyranids, and it was in Ragnar Blackmane novel. Genestealers made a nest in a hulk that had a sealed Greater Daemon, Botchulaz. Even though the Hive Mind heavily dampened and weakened the effect it had, Botchulaz could still inflict disease on the genestealers, though they were never his minions. It's not like Nurgle could take over a Hive ship. The Shadow in the Warp and the natural resistance of the Nids kinda preclude that. Just being in the Shadow depowers daemons, if not straight up banishing them through its weight. Lol

Kronos is only meant to be a counter to chaos, to the point they dont even fight other factions if possible, it tags along another hivefleet which cracks defenses and then leaves the bio to kronos. I assume the srain that produces a stronger shadow in the warp competes in the genetic sequence with other combat related functions, hence why its a kronos specific and not a general upgrade to all nid fleets. Very much why the zerg in Heart of the Swarm have to choosd between two strains for certain units.

My head cannon for tyranids not being able to adapt to nurgles plagues is that it’s probably like how bacteria can only be resistant to bacteriophages or antibiotics not both because the defence mechanisms for both contradict each over.
