Do you find yourself wondering how deep we should be going when tattooing?
In this video I share with you all how we can go about figuring out how deep to go when it comes to lining!
Not only do I share some close up views on what it looks like to go different depths, I also share with you all a practical exercise we can go about using to better our needle depth. This exercise will help us understand a little bit more just how tattoo needles are working.

This video came out RIGHT ON TIME, my mentor and I have agreed that my biggest struggle is my needle depth, and too many times I think I have a beautiful line just to pat it away and boom I barely grazed the skin. I hate having to double pass lines.

You will develop that with time, the courage and “feel” to get those lines in properly will come to you as you do more tats, obviously adapting to different people and areas of the body. Inks, needles, equipment, settings, angle, speed,.. There is no one-size-fits-all. Skin tautness helps a lot, btw. Makes a huge difference.

I've been having the exact same problem, I tattooed myself last week and my lines were barely showing so I had to do multiple passes, so frustrating!

@Juliette De Maso thank you! I'm filling the colour of my tattoo this week. I'm going to make the skin tighter before pulling my lines, hopefully it helps!

One of the main things to remember when pulling lines is STRETCH the skin! It's so monumentally important to stretch the skin during a tattoo. Ink will always lay better in skin that is taut as opposed to loose skin. I've learned to listen to the machine to tell me when I'm at a sufficient depth as the tone will change as it deals with the resistance. It also helps me to have quite a bit of needle sticking out so it's easier to float and see the exact location and depth of the needle. Practice! Practice! Practice!

I have the same problem. My tattoos look nice and all but once it peels it's either blown out or barely there. 🙃 This is my biggest struggle.

This to me is the most important thing a tattooer has to know, in todays world it's like tracing a stencil that is already there, the finished result is based upon the correct needle depth (not talking about the lining, shading, packing skills), there are lots of lining based tattoo and one can do a sick looking tattoo by watching and learning from this video, another great content brother 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Hi dear Daniel, I want to ask how can I do light line only with black ink its relate more about voltage or my fast hand speed or the depth of the needle ? Thanks :)
@cregs8289
@cregs8289 Жыл бұрын
You can diluted your black to get a lighter line or you can increase your hand speed while simultaneously decreasing needle depth. What I do sometimes is I'll dip into my black ink and then do a very quick dip into plain ol water right after, thus diluting the ink held in the reservoir.

When lining its easier to hit the right needle depth but the problem is when shading , we need to move faster
