Fortnite released as a zombie defense PvE game. It was later named Save The World, because 3 months later they took the game they had and spun up their stab at a battle royal. Pubg was pioneering that space at the time. THEN it became Fortnite that you know of now. What a crazy gamble

Initial screenshots are from times even before Save The World - it was literally a “horror game” then. There’s an interesting GDC talked from artist, linked in vid description 👌

*these days, I think developers should take their time and combine multiple ideas and concepts. that one idea might not be successful but 5 great ideas in one will have a higher chance of being noticed and succeeding* 👌
