Car Bomber - In New York State, Eleanor Fowler opened a small package mailed to her home. The box exploded, causing utter devastation. Within minutes, five other bombs exploded, as fatal as the first. The investigation into this serial bombing case became one of the most extensive investigations in history.

Although it may seem like common sense, the lesson here is if you weren't expecting a parcel in the mail and a heavy parcel with no sender arrives then find someone you don't like and ask for help in opening it. Try to hide around the corner during this time.

"Very stable to work with, high explosives require a great amount of force, a detonator, to set them off" I may not be an explosives expert, but I think they are confusing that with plastic explosives. Dynamite is not what I would classify as "stable"
@Fregler
@Fregler 4 жыл бұрын
Dynamite is actually relativly stable, especially compared to just raw nitroglycerin, which was often used before, when Alfred Nobel invented dynamite it was a sensation because of how safe it was.
@jacobtierney4419
@jacobtierney4419 4 жыл бұрын
They have made a mistake though, they've confused "high explosives" with "secondary explosives". High explosives detonate, they decompose at velocities higher than the speed of sound in the medium. Secondaty explosives are explosives that require an initial detonation to set off. For instance, silver fulminate is a high explosive, it detonates. But its not a secondary, its a primary explosive, it can detonate by heat, flame or friction. Dynamite is a secondary high explosive though. It is stable enough that it needs a blasting cap of primary explosive to go off. Its not the most stable secondary though, and RDX/HMX based compositions like C4 are even better.
@Honeypot-x9s
@Honeypot-x9s 4 жыл бұрын
@@Fregler it is and isn't stable.. if dynamite is in its medium still, absolute, fresh sticks and mixes are incredible stable and can even resist exploding from heat and shock and friction the very things that the medium that is bonded to the explosive is unstable with.. however leave them sitting around long enough and the oily stuff leaches out of them and that is what is very unstable. should always treat and warn of its instability in my opinion however because most people if they come into contact with it are coming into contact with very old stuff been abandoned and has the real risk of instability. people who come into contact with fresh stuff are likely trained or familiar enough with it that dont even need a lesson.

Just like that old tired chestnut back in the day of when filing a report that someone went missing and police said ad nauseam: 'People that are adults are allowed to go missing.' And serial killers, rapists, career criminals and offenders of opportunity are allowed to take full advantage of a lathargic justice system and indifferent law enforcement agency coupled with a completely apathetic pervading low morale about society and you have the golden age of unbridled murder, anarchy and death. Cheers.

36:43. One of my relatives was an ear-witness to one of those Cleveland Mob car bombs of the mid-70’s and he knew the victim because he worked in the same neighborhood. He had waved to the guy when he passed him on the street then turned the corner to walk to his own car after work. Then he heard the blast and everyone came running to see what happened. I was just a kid and was scared to visit my relatives when this was going on.

Used to make bombs. When I went into Industry I learned how lucky I was to avoid being hurt. I learned about hoods. I learned about barriers. I learned how to properly measure chemicals. I learned how to keep good records. Today I have hearing loss from explosives. My ears ring constantly. You ever heard a loud noise then hear a "whee" or buzzing sound? I have that constantly in both ears. Sometimes I have to ask people to speak up. Explosives make our modern life possible. Mining and reclaiming property and construction materials. Explosives are tools. If you really like bombs? Join the military or police. They will train you. You will have a bottomless budget to blow stuff up. If you want to do this as a private citizen, without training? Lots of burn ward videos here. Go and see what you're flirting with by playing with bombs and fire.

I hope Eleanor Fowler's family sued the West Valley, N.Y., city and police department. Even if the suit couldn't have prevailed it would have been worth it just to force the police and city to go thorough the pain of a law suit. A woman calls about a suspicious package and is summarily dismissed over the phone by her police department. Had they bothered to give her genuine attention and care she almost certainly wouldn't have been killed. That negligence is unpardonable.

Shefedme, it is their duty not to be half-wits and give a citizen reasonable advice rather than just pass her off because they're too busy gossiping and drinking coffee to give a damn. Plus, had the bomb been able to be defused or even x-rayed they would have had an invaluable piece of evidence to find the culprit without her dying. There is no way getting around the fact that it was a shoddy and irresponsible response by law enforcement. They let someone down when she needed them.

That wire cutter "match up" is pretty suspicious. When compared with the wide "bite" region of a typical pair of wire cutters, a piece of wire features a comparatively narrow diameter. In order to get a visual match (between two different wires; both cut with the same wire cutters), you would have to cut both wires *at exactly the same spot* (along the "bite" region) of the identified pair of wire cutters. Now, of course, some wire cutters _do have_ a very narrow "bite" region, but, at the same time, it is _also very easy_ to find wire cutters that feature a typically _wide_ "bite" region. This "wire cutter match-up" stuff is not the same as comparing the scrape marks on two bullets that were fired from the same gun. A gun barrel is guaranteed to always impart identical scrape marks, but the wide "bite" of a pair of wire cutters cannot guarantee the same consistent result.

Woman: I just got a suspicious anonymous package. I am worried about it. Can you help? Police: Sorry, m'am. Sending anonymous packages isn't illegal. That's such a typical police response. Had the police taken her seriously, she wouldn't have died.
@fedorboendermaker1536

What? You expect the police to send a bomb squad to everyone reporting a suspicious package? If she really was that suspicious of it she could have just kept it shut or take it to the station. The police most likely recommended something like that, but we will never know, the documentary doesn't cover the exact conversation.
@Frazzled_Chameleon
@Frazzled_Chameleon 4 жыл бұрын
@@fedorboendermaker1536 Not necessarily. But they could have been more firm about it. They could have told her "If you are unsure about the package and you have concerns, DO NOT ACCEPT It. It's not illegal to NOT accept packages either."

@@elizabethsohler2410 If you get a gut feeling that strong, ignoring it can be fatal. If every bone in my body was screaming that this package was dangerous, you can bet your ass that I wouldn't touch it. I'd call the police and report a possible bomb. Even if it didn't turn out to be one, I am sure the police would also say "It's better to be safe than sorry." The lady didn't use the word 'bomb' when she called the police, so they thought it was just an old lady being paranoid and dismissed her.

@lordoftheflings It could only happen in America. What’s with all this bombing lark anyway? You all seem obsessed! No offence meant. However, that first one seems familiar; like the accepting of the word of authority. Same as wtc tower 2 scenario or numerous naval accidents; people just don’t think for themselves anymore!

Some guy told us how we can avoid ads. He said to take the slider all the way to the right and when you see the replay arrow on your left press it right away and it will play all the way through. I tried it a few times with other videos and it worked. However, I can't do it with this video. I just tried it and an ad came on so I am trying it again. I guess it only works on certain videos. I have been watching Real Responders since yesterday and I was able to avoid ads on about 5 videos. It works on some and not on others, It won't hurt to try it. Let me know if it worked for you.

How do investigators successfully collect prime/useable evidence at a bombing after the pieces of the victim(s) are cleaned up? Wouldn't that cleaning corrupt the crime scene forensic investigation? I'm not trying to be gross or unnecessarily morbid, but in the recreations there's no indication that a human being was blown to bits, okay, that's fine. In a real forensic examination of the scene, would they leave the bloody bits intact while looking for clues? I'm being serious here. Also, which students who successfully graduate are able to successfully examine a real bombing situation? I'm sure a few say, "I don't think I can do this," for obvious reasons. How does the ATF train their students to approach these grisly scenes and retain their objective efficacy?
