This is a prime example of Discovery leavin out the details that that the USA needed help. They only ever knew they had a bug to search for because British inteligence notified them after a British radio operator accidentally tuned into the bug while the russians were using it. And when they needed to figure out how it worked they had to give it to British engineers from Marconi. It's like that one person who tries to take sole credit for a joint project.

Who is Marconi ?? Nikola Tesla invented everything !!

They do it for WWI, when they barely got there, and WWII, when the Soviets took the brunt. Now they'll do it for the Cold War.

@@duncanluciak5516”they”? you know we aren’t a giant homogeneous group right? When you lump all Americans into one group you sound just as dumb as the Americans you’re describing.

I don't understand why they didn't expect it. So Russia gives you this huge wooden object that you don't look inside at all? There should be dark room where all the gifts are kept cuz you know we do that shit too.
@artvandelay3840 Жыл бұрын
This was 1945, just after WWII. Russia and the U.S were allies. And the gift was given under the guise of good will, brought to the embassy by a Russian children's group. Under the circumstances, I think they could be forgiven for not expecting this wooden plaque contained a listening device.

We do not know what exactly the impact of this inclusion has been. But it may have prevented a nuclear war during the Cold War.

Was this episode financed by the Clinton campaign at the time? The narrative regarding the bug is sort of technically accurate, the sinister tone and paranoia is however rather amusing.
