Tottenham Hotspur have had a brilliant start to the new premier league season, which is quite surprising, we must add.
At least considering they had a poor season the last time out and also had to deal with the loss of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, you probably had every right to write them off.
And if you feel bad for writing them off, don't worry, you're not alone on that one.
And now they're proving us wrong by getting some really impressive results whilst playing some pretty football. The result of this? They now lie on the top of the Premier league table.
And all of this now begs the question, "how have Spurs become so good?"
How have they gone from being easy write-offs to potential title challengers?
The answer? Ange Postecoglou.

A player who I think has benefited from the departure of Harry Kane has been Heung Min Son. For many seasons Heung Min Son has been seen as one of the best wingers in the premier league and he’s been absolutely brilliant for Tottenham individually despite the fact that he hasn’t won any trophies for them over the years he has been overshadowed by Harry Kane and now that he left he has been carrying this team. Last season he experienced a noticeable dip in form as he wasn’t quite a 100% fit and we saw it in his performances as he just scored 10 premier league goals and he came under criticism for not performing and now this season he’s scored 6 goals in 8 premier league games and he’s looked back to his very best as he’s playing as a CF now with his back to goal he’s been a left winger throughout his Tottenham career and since Harry Kane left they needed a player that would step up and score goals and that’s what Heung Min Son has done so far this season. He scored a hat trick against Burnley a brace against Arsenal and then a goal against Liverpool. It’s great to see him back in top form because when he’s playing like this he’s genuinely one of the best players in the world and Ange Postecoglu has gotten the best out of his new talisman in the team and he is definitely thriving with more responsibility in the attack.

It’s a bit funny to say he as a winger just scored 10 PL goals. Who else as a winger scored more than 10 last season? Yes, Son wasn’t 100% fit so he by his standard had not good season but looking at him now if he is fit, he is still one of the top fowards in the league. He isn’t 100% fot yet as it seems now though.

Ange made astute leadership decisions for the team. By appointing Son, Madders and Cuti as leaders, he transformed the vibe and culture of the group. Lloris did not seem like an effective captain. I will never forget how he confronted Son aggressively during a match and in the dressing room. A true leader would not do that.

Son didn't press if u watched that game which almost led to a goal Harry was pressing and lloris even mentioned same for everyone He is not confronting son individually That led to son getting motivated to score a goal They both hugged each other at the end of the match and had a laugh. Point is lloris just got old for a gk and a captain. Look his stats of 2022 and before years. Come on don't blame it on him

Followed Ange since he helped my home team Brisbane Roar win a championship in 2011 and 2012, he's the reason I really got into football. Since then I've followed him and the key to his teams have been selecting and finding young, high energy players that are skilled but more importantly they have good characters to match which are essential to build good team chemistry and unity. They play his way as you detailed high press, high possession, play from the back, keep ball moving forward and never stop. With all that you've mentioned its been a formula for success, its not easy and requires players to be brave but if players stick to the formula Ange backs his players and success follows. Because its Spurs no one will back them to win the league, not even their own fans (anchored by historical disappointment) but this man only knows how to win, watch this space because if they are injury free, strengthen the squad in the next transfer window, and can maintain the momentum, I'm quietly confident they will prove this streak of form will not fade away and dare I say it, can win the league.

Ange winning the league in his first season at Celtic was the most incredible league title Celtic have won in my 50+ years as a supporter. Celtic were a basket case when he came in. The team had come to the natural end of its shelf life. They lost a huge number of players & he had little time to prepare for the task. His recruitment was incredible, virtually every player he signed made significant contributions to their success. Ange is a God in my eyes. A very, very special manager & human being. I'm convinced he'll bring success to Spurs this season by getting them back into the CL. Next season could see them finally win something again.

James Maddison is a great example on how transfer fees don’t mean anything when rating a player and discussing the impact they have on their new team. Tottenham seriously paid 40 million for him from Leicester City a club that just got relegated from the Premier League and at the time they signed him I knew that it was very good money because they’re getting a baller who has plenty of premier league experience proven commodity and knows the league very well and it’s not really a surprise that he’s been off to a flyer at Tottenham. In the premier league he has 5 assists and has chipped in with a couple of goals he has created chances dictates the midfield at his own pace and is a tidy dribbler as well and has brought creativity and technique to their midfield. Other clubs have been paying half or triple of what Tottenham paid for James Maddison and aren’t getting the same impact and output from their players while they only had to pay 40 million for him and with every passing game he’s looking like a bargain and is one of the best signings of the season in terms of his impact and performances.

Paying big money for players usually isn't worth it. How many record transfers ended up justifing their fees? Cristiano Ronaldo at Madrid absolutely, possibly Gigi Buffon at Juventus (the only "but" is that he didn't win the Champions League, hardly his fault) and maybe Gareth Bale. Unless the player is truly special spending big does more damage than good. Tottenham's starting midfield against Arsenal combined cost less than Declan Rice alone iirc. The most costly addition to the squad is Richarlison, who is also performing the worst and I think his price tag has something to do with it. More often than not it's better to invest in a good scouting team that will find you someone twice as good for half the money. Not to mention the amount of talent Spurs have in their academy

The best thing he did was clearing out almost entire old defensive lineup. What makes Spurs spursy from previous seasons is personal error which is from Tottenham senior long-lasting average defenders like Dier, Sanchez. He changed entire lineup except Romero and every new guys perform incredibly well although this is their first Premier league season. This is the best defensive lineup we have since Rose-Vertonghen-Alderweireld-Walker. The Romero vice captain appointment is big brain move too. Maybe it is just coincidence but Romero on previous seasons always made many controversial fouls and got a yellow card in almost every games he played. On vice captain role, it feels like more responsibility and more mentoring role on other defenders that makes me feel like he plays more reliable and does not make a lot of risky foul anymore this season.

As good as he is as a manger and a person, it also comes down to the fact of having a stable manager, who wanted to be there and better the club/players by implementing his style of play. I’m liking the way this Tottenham team has been playing at the start of the season as the football is attractive the fans like the way the team plays and under Ange Postecoglu the team actually has an identity and a style of football that’s great for us to see and after losing Harry Kane they haven’t missed him just yet. As we speak they’re currently top of the Premier League after 8 games winning 20 points and the results have been impressive players like Heung Min Son James Maddison Yves Bissouma Cristian Romero Destiny Udogie Vicarlio and Mickey Van Der Ven have been the driving force in why Tottenham have looked very good since the premier league started and let’s hope they continue their great run of form. Despite having 20 points in 8 games 6 wins 2 draws 0 losses Tottenham still has absolutely zero chance of winning the Premier League title this season. Football fans and pundits should worry about watching Tottenham and enjoying the way the team is playing because once you start hyping them up for no reason you’re gonna put pressure and unrealistic expectations on them and once that happens if they start losing and dropping points we’re gonna start criticizing them again. Tottenham are most likely targeting a top 4 5-6 finish this season if they maintain their form but I don’t see them winning the title it just won’t happen we should be happy if they get back in the top 4 minimum as don’t spend too much time hyping up a team that hasn’t won anything in literally almost 2 decades. Ange Postecoglu making an immediate impact after losing one of the best strikers in Europe in just his first season as Tottenham manager it should be absolutely embarrassing for a team like Chelsea who has spent billions over the last 12 months and are still very inconsistent same thing with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United the team is worse off now than they were under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer and just like Chelsea they’ve also spent a lot of money. This team has been on a strict budget and are actually producing it’s not about how much money you spent in football it’s about how you do it and how it directly correlates into your sporting project and with steady progress Tottenham will be back in the champions league and who knows in the future maybe they can be title contenders in the league and hope they actually end this 15 year trophy drought under Ange Postecoglu.

It's not just the system that's changed IMO, I'm strongly feel he's changed how we train and what we do in training. Before we kicked off against Liverpool, the starting 11 were doing their warm up in the SE corner of the ground. He had them split into 2 teams and ALL the were doing, was passing the ball to one another while the other team aggressively pressed them. The outcome of this seems to be paying huge dividends as we are, as you say, having much more possession. In the last 4 years all our players bar Kane looked like they'd never seen a football and didnt know what to do with one when it was kicked in their direction. Now we have a team who not only have the ability to take it in tight situations, but want it and thrive from it. Watch how often the defence will pass to Bissouma, Maddison, Sar and Kulu when they have at least 1 player on them, and those players manage to win the duel and move the ball up field

As a new fan of Spurs, it's been really exciting watching them this season. My only problem is it might be time to replace Richy with a new striker, he's just floundering especially with Madders joining us earlier this year.

The head coach Postecoglou recognized the serious problem of Hotspur, so he could rebuild this team's capabilities. So far, Kane, Lloris, Dier, and Skipp were core members of leadership but they couldn't make the team one heart squad. They used to blame openly other players to strengthen the defense line even though blamed players were attackers. Of course, if the team needs it, attackers should turn themselves into defenders. However, to be honest, Lloris & Dier's requests that other attackers and midfielders should join the defending line were very absurd demands, to be honest. They couldn't score as they joined the defending line since they were perfectly tired of defending opponent players' fast and massive attacks. They are not superheroes who can show unlimited energy on the ground, which means if the defenders of Hotspur had shown enough level of defense capabilities against opponents' infiltration, attackers could've scored when they had a chance. Particularly, Eric Dier's unbelievable worst defending attitude made many fans of Hotspur angry. Those defenders shouldn't have criticized other attackers and midfielders as they lost scores. But the new head coach Postecoglou already knew the serious problem, so he had to exclude a few controversial squad members such as Lloris, Dier, and Skipp. Because they can't become helpful players for Tottenham's victory. Moreover, he also recognized Sonny's excellent leadership built by Sonny's good relationships in Hotspur. Yeah...still a couple of players used to behave like selfish players who don't know the concept of teamwork, however, this team's internal vibes are OK. If some troublemakers don't disturb Hotspur's teamwork, Tottenham will become a promising team to become a challenger in the Champs in the end.

l think Kane moving on has changed the dynamic of the team for the better plus of course the genius that is Maddison and a couple of very good defenders.

They need to find a way to give the ball to SON more often because SON has more percentage to score with his first touch/shots. Son is the key coach wake up! Not giving son more it’s like you are benching Michael Jordan!

Ange was at Celtic for two seasons. He won the double in his first and the treble in his second. But wait…. Where are all the spurs fans who wrote off any accomplishments made in Scotland? I thought Celtic weren’t a big club? And that anyone could win in Scotland? Gerrard even won a trophy right? One out of 9 attempts but I thought that meant success up North meant nothing? Are Scottish teams now deserving of respect? I doubt it.

Maddison is not a ”creative” midfielder the team had stated many times that they are playing a rigid structure. The change comes from RBs who run instead of pass and then go through Maddison

To the title? It's hard to bet against a guy who's won everywhere he's been, and whose team is leading the league right now. I wonder how much bookies have shortened Tottenham's odds of a title, from when Ange was announced - to now.

I think Richarlison is only hitting 40% if that of when he played at his best, and I do fear for him now moving ahead. Of course I hope he can get his confidence back but it's got to be soon. Further mentioning no names I do not ever want to see our players do stupid diving when no one has tackled you!!!!!!
