How did Blue Chip Qualifier number 2 go? At Cherwell Competition Centre

Another 5am start! We headed to Cherwell Equestrian Centre last Saturday for Gem to jump the Stepping Stones and for Troy to give his second Blue Chip Qualifier! It was a super cold morning but the sun was shining so we can’t complain but it did remind us of a brisk winters day!

It was weird how there was a ramp of energy in the stands when the pony started to rush. It was like a wind blew through and then the jump went wonky. I’ll keep holding you in my heart. What an amazing day; the red rosette and then the floor. I think pink jackets are going to be the next big thing in the jumper world for girls. 💕Go Ivy! 💕

Hey Muffin, l was so mesmerized watching, it was great and l learned so much when you were done and l was listening to the lady back at your trailer. No worries, Ivy!!! You looked amazing and you were so brave!! Also, those jumps were huge and I never would have been able to memorize that course. I’m 45 years old and I would have been pooping my pants if my trainer made me do that course. We all have bad days!! In my first-ever show (well, only show), my horse refused an 18-inch trot jump in equitation over fences, and in the next course he had diarrhea over one of the fences!! (I had given him too many bananas the day before). You are a great sport- thanks for the great attitude and inspiration!

Ivy is a great little rider with the courage of the young. It’s fun to watch her. And you have a lot of courage to let her do it. But.I’d like to make an observation that I don’t really see ivy I just see her outfit. I hope you don’t mind my suggestion to use yellow based colors in the darker hues. Like autumn colors of yellow. Green. Coral brown Tan. To know if a color flatters her take your eyes away from her for a few minute and when you look at her again note what you seen first. If it’s ivy you’ve got it. If it’s the color it’s the wrong color. When the color compliments ivys beautiful red hair people will begin to see ivy riding over the jumps and not her jacket

Poor boy got confused slightly on that last jump. I think the wind and rain puddles reflecting did not help him any. It's all experience and you will be ready for those conditions next time. You are both champions and one day of losing some points cannot take that away.

I see many kids today riding ponies in strong bits and jumping with a short rein and sitting with their hands in their laps almost...i slowed the video right down before Ivy fell of before the fence...she did seem to pull on his mouth a bit before approach.....the pony pitched and unbalanced and did well to collect himself to jump....Give your horse a bit of head with the reins over the jumps...move your hands up his neck as he jumps...then you 'collect' him on landing for the next jump....i know Ivy is young and doing very well....but if you're having to rely on a strong bit, a standing martingale and short rein to control a pony at this age then it kind of takes the fun out of learning to ride properly...just my opinion...i'm sure i'll get crucified for saying so lol xx

Each pony has a different set up to work with the abilities of both. Half the job in showjumping is having an eye. Which we all know Ivy has, hence the pull before the fence she wanted a short shot. Ivy will continue to develop but her natural ability will see her through also. We’re showing a progression here so we do put the bad days up. But with that comes all this which is a shame because we know what to do & how to get it right & how to develop a rider & a pony & im sure in 2 years time which she will only be 9 the journey will be a brilliant watch.
