You are the first reddit reading channel I really respect. You seem really genuine, and the little segments in between stories also just make these videos not seem robotic and soulless. Honestly great work, I'm sure many others also enjoy the content you make.

Growing up, I experienced homelessness roughly 3 times. My mother called it camping. She was a free spirit. I had an interesting childhood.

This is a story about my mom during her childhood, when she was in highschool. Her school fired a janitor, Mr. Eric, because he was an alcoholic. He was very apreciated in the school so it was sad to see him go. A couple of years later my grandma and my mom went to park their car in a (kinda) dangerous place at night. They found that janitor just walking down the street, they talked a bit, him saying he's been clear for more than a year but still couldn't find any job because of how he got fired and now he was homeless. My grandma, by request of my mom, offered him like 30 bucks to clean the windows and to take care of the car. A few hours later they heard people breaking stuff and fighting, apparently a bunch of drunk criminals were "having fun and messing around", so they called the police and went down to check the damages. The other 3 cars parked in that area there had their windows broken and a few flat tires, but my grandma's car didn't even had a scratch, only with Mr Eric laying on top of it with a broken nose and lip, but proudly saying "the car is ok maam, no worries!!" My mom was tearing up when saying that last part. He then was hired by the condo my grandma wath living in as a janitor and gardener. He died at 92 y/o in 2003

My mom's boss once saw a homeless guy near the restaurant, this was unusual in the area as in that part of the city people called the police to remove them. My mom's boss offered the guy a job and would help him find a temporary place to stay in the meantime, the man had a wife and baby so the money he made mainly went to them. Eventually, he left the job as he moved far away and earned enough money to move into an apartment with his wife and baby.

What sucks in when folks go out of their way to help homeless folks and it doesn't work. We have a temp agency in my city that specifically is works with Homeless/down on there luck folks. The lady that runs it has places for folks to stay while they're working and it's dirt cheap! She's been in business 10 years and has only had like 300 clients. That woman is a saint.

I ran away from home when I was 15, I had 400 bucks to my name, I drifted around Canada for a while, doing two week cash jobs before I ended up in Yukon territory 2 years later, now, 2 years after that I'm working in a sawmill my friend owns, have a great Wolamute named King and couldn't be happier (it started off that he'd buy me supper if I did a day's work)

My son and I saw a little tent city by a bridge today, and I just shook my head and said I wish everyone could find a job and have their own place. It seems like it’s getting impossible for the people at the bottom.

My siblings used to see this homeless man on the way to school. One day, the start seeing him early in the morning. Eventually, after a few weeks, he started being up early in the same corning, but getting well dressed and trying to comb down his messy, dirty hair. A couple days later, they would find him with a whole new haircut and a nice look to him, well dress and kept, and it was just a matter of 12 days before tbey would stop seeing him in that corner altogether. We all like to think he was able to get back up to his feet after a very difficult time in his life. Ofc they had no way of confirming, they could only see him on a quick glance through the school bus's windows, but they at least hope he did.

I was homeless when my wife was pregnant and I had a job. I walked from work to the hospital next to UGA in Athens. I went days sleeping at my job or at the hospital trying to get the money to get a place for us because my son was born premature and had to stay in the NICU. We got a house the day he went home and my job made me manager. After everything I hated the job but they gave me the shot I needed. I am thankful they gave me that shit otherwise idk where we would be

the homeless thing ; i have mixed feelings: because sadly there is A LOT of homeless who chose to do things that they knew would harm themselves and or become addicted and then refuse any help or resources that is offered , you also have folks who WANT to be homeless because they like the '' freedom and lack of responsibilities''' those people can go screw themselves. however: you also have folks who became homeless through no fault of their own; leaving abusive spouse or parents, lost job due to shut down or down-sizing and were not able to get hired again before everything piled up too fast to get out, you have people who become disabled and fall through the cracks, end up homeless because they cant get affordable housing, disability support etc. they too need and deserve help: but that is kinda rare compared to the more common addiction , mental health folks and those that do not want any help. my heart genuinely goes out to the ones who are legit trying to do better, but those are not common as compared to the 70 something percent who are there by choice as theyd rather indulge in addictions, and refuse to take responsibility for their actions an choices.

Tried to help out a homeless person once almost got spit on for it thank goodness I was good at dodgeball and I was able to make sure he missed second time during Covid took a homeless guy to the ER room a nurse got black eye third and final story. I was with my grandmother when she tried to offer a homeless person work. He laughed in her face and said he could get more money panhandling than anything else. The worst ones have children around. Yes, there are some good homeless people but not every homeless person is a gem underneath, keep that in mind

I don’t understand why people are so reluctant to help the homeless. I think it would be more human/Christian to help people with the chance of someone cheating the system than hurting more people and not helping anyone.

smoking cigs is an expensive addiction / activity, i swear if these homeless or even just poor folks would give up the cigs, theyd better their situation by a lot. dont give me that ooh but cigs are hard to give up, or they are struggling so much let em have their cigs''. no. the cigarettes make it ten times harder to get back on your feet, not to mention the health issues it causes you and those around you; plus, while it is indeed extremely hard to kick the addiction especially with it being legal and readily available, there are numerous smoking quit groups, medical and health interventions as well many of these, if you take the time to look are free, or of little cost, hell, there are some programs where they pay you various incentives to hep motivate you to quit: or if you become part of a study some of those will pay you while you go though your quit program. so yeah, give up the cigs, you dont need em, give em up for yourself and for those around you, especially if money is already tight or if you are homeless, plus not smelling like an ashtray will also help you get better jobs.

What I don't understand is people who fake being homeless. Like, you can afford those designer heels (usually worth thousands of dollars), but you can't afford to rent an apartment (just a few hundred in the nearby "city")?

STORY 3: Saying “we could all use more Alton’s in our lives” implies this is a character growth moment for Alton, not your dad, or you for that matter. Alton was always sincere; your dad was the one who needed to learn to trust people he otherwise wouldn’t, for no other reason that personal bias. Anyone could be an Alton. What we need are more people like the dad to step past their personal biases. I’d advise the writer to rethink his statements.
