So I'm in my first year as Electrical Engineering major. I'm actually really bad at math but I really like math. The euphoria I feel when I solved a math problem can make me happy for the whole day. I have a lot of up and down in my life from dropping out of highschool and then coming back to get my Highschool diploma. And then applying to top schools in my country to get rejected 13 times before I actually accepted. And How my talents is actually more in Chemistry then Physics. Besides all that, I hope I can enjoy Electrical Engineering because I really like playing with soldering iron and creating circuits.

I'm really happy that my university doesn't allow engineering students to pick your major at your first year (civil, mech, ece, bio). We all get to rank the 5 engineering programs (from 1-5) that my university offered after completing at least 8 of the 10 required first year engineering courses. If I was forced to pick a major right away, I would've chosen Civil, but during my first year I realized that Mechanical was better for me

Thank you for this video; I watch a bunch of your videos; they are really helpful, as I am going through this right now. I'm a non traditional student - back @ school about to finish calc 1 - I like math (actually thinking about doubling in applied math) and I'm taking physics next to prep for engineering physics; I'm currently a compsci student by the same means that you kind of mentioned -- I chose it because a lot of recommendations from others pointed me that way (I live in tech city). I've always been a fan of space, but then I found out about environmental engineering and was originally super fascinated with the idea of it. I went on to further learn about the occupation and found out its not all I thought it was, considering in field work. Then, I debated mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering, in which I found out that you use a lot of both electrical and mechanical engineering in aerospace, so I thought "wow perfect, so I'll do aerospace and get to experience all of them." But then I remembered I'm still 13 and only at Algebra 2, and havent even seen a spec of physics. I know I want to pursue an engineering course, but right now I'm leaning towards aerospace or mechanical.

Then I moved to robotics, and I'm doing some cool stuff, but it's still not enough for me. I'm moving to electrical at my master's, and I'll have to take some extra classes So, be really through while choosing your university studies, it's important.

Oh yeah there will be some classes which we don't like at all and just want to get out of the way. Yes Power Engineering also didn't sit well with me either. Yet years later Power Electronics is so important in industrial automation due to Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). I definitely identify with the nothing-to-offer-to-companies feeling. Also entertained thoughts about doing something else if I went back to school. One thing that you got lucky with was to get a job in which you really got to work like an engineer. Yes it was short, but IMO better than a maintenance engineer.

I ended up where I was due to my chemistry teacher enrolling me into the chemistry Olympics in 9th grade which seeing as I almost actively avoided learning about it outside of school mental I dropped out right after the introduction talks (thinking back I think I could have gotten somewhere if I actually tried but after seeing the look on the face of the girl which helped us with some example questions when I asked her what a mol was I decided it was not worth the effort and the trouble*) but I found the lectures very interesting and decided that chemistry would probably be the path I would choose. Afterwards I took chemistry and maths for my Leistungskurs**, failed both more or less due to a combination of not really understanding the difference between being able to understand and being able to recall reliable and my teacher (who I got in both math in chemistry), let's just say we were not compatible. But I still found chemistry interesting applied for chemistry, then a friend told me about chemical biology which was extremely similar but had some parts in it which I found more interesting (and completely misunderstood) so I also applied for that, didn't get in at first due to my grades, then got in because somebody else did not take his place, had my maths introduction course in which I both learned more maths in 1½ days then I had in my entire life and refound my love for math, then later in the chemistry introduction course I learned that studying chemistry was apparently considered to be very hard and time consuming (considering the reactions of the people around me I was probably the only one who did not know this) and yeah, that's how I ended up in chemistry. **Leistungskurs is 1 of 2/3(depending on you state) courses you have to choose for your two final years in Gymnasium (the German form of school not the one where you do sports), they cover more stuff and go more into detail on the specific subject then the regular courses. *When I was younger I would often just say the answer to any question the teacher asked (not volunteerely just out of reflex) and it would be worse the more I knew about the subject and the more bored I got which seeing as I could often predict the questions ahead of them being asked even without further looking into it (I had a rather mint upbringing with both my parents being pretty knowledgeable even outside their fields and they also would always try to explain everything I was interested in which was basically everything except for analysis of literature.)

In Germany at the TUHH we also have the course of study Mechatronics which is a perfect mixture between electrical and mechanical engineering with a bit computer science. I personally love it because u have more knowledge of different fields than just one. This comes with the downside that you arent a master in a specific field but in general u could say that the first time you specialize yourself is in ur first job. So the downside isnt that big of a deal. + you dont restrict yourself with you choice Edit: Sorry for the bad english, it isnt my first language and im typing this late in the evening haha

I'm asking this because Im interested in both mechanical and electrical engineering and as far as Ive researched about all of this, mechatronics seems like the best option for mee. @@krysalaska9538 I'd look at how specialized those specialty programs are. If it's a sub-discipline of mechanical, then you'll get all of the core mechanical stuff and just limit yourself on which electives and capstone projects you can choose. If there program has a lot of very specialized classes, then it might be limiting your opportunities out of college unless you can really make yourself stand out to get those highly coveted jobs at places like Lockheed, SpaceX, NASCAR, etc. After you've had an engineering job for a few years, your major won't matter as much; your work should speak for itself (project management, leadership, reducing waste & costs, timeliness, ability to solve problems and think on your feet, good engineering judgment, etc).

@@ike2938 I'm in the final weeks of the 3rd semester. So far, I'm still on online classes. The calendar is a bit off, we'll have 3 semesters this year to sync things up again. In loco classes will take a while to return, since each day over 10000 people will have lunch together, quite a crowd in these days. I still don't have much practical experience, we have simulated classes and I've decided to not take part in any practical discipline until activities return to normal. I'm enjoying the course, but I feel like we should learn more programming in the beginning. If I ever switch courses, I would choose electronics engineering, a similiar course my uni offers. During quarantine, I've developed a appreciation for computers and switched to Linux as my main OS. In 2019, I hated computers lol

I was wondering if it was possible that you could create a video about the cyber security major (or if you mentioned it in a previous video to go more in depth). Also could you talk about the possibility of doing a sort of double major for cyber security and computer science, they have similar classes and I was wondering if you could get a degree in both, so there would not be a limit as to what jobs I can get.

I don’t know what type of math you like, but I really like the idea to teaching math myself. It’s a little late for you, but I would have recommended to take a range of physics and engineering in your first year of college, and then, if you like them, keep going in that direction. If not, take like more math classes. And maybe look into tutoring if you like that type of thing. Also, as a junior, I’m feel that so much.... I’m taking my first engineering/physics classes summer before senior year and fall of senior year, even though I decided that I should look into engineering, because of my love of math.

But then I started looking into robotics and areonuatuc/aerospace engineering So now I dont know which to choose.
