Aaargh! I'm in heaven. So glad that you shared this. Since you are not a water colorist as you say, I will let you know that in water color circles those 'smoke rings' are referred to as blooms. It makes sense I guess. You are a treasure, my lady!

I have done similar staining in the past with watercolours and inks and the process and results are much the same. I have never tried fabric dyes. If using alcohol inks, make sure that the medium to create spots is compatible. Some alcohol inks work with water for spotting and some prefer alcohol. I just experiment with the fabric and inks on small pieces before tackling the larger pieces of fabric.

I live in Washington and letting something dry outside takes FOR....Ever! This is where I miss the Arizona heat, this little piece of fabric would dry in less than 3 minutes (if I didn’t clarify, I’m from Arizona hehe)

I get this effect by accident when I dye papers or fabric. But its been "hit & miss". Now I can get it purposely and when I WANT. I really needed this video!!! You videos are always great stuff, and unique. I'm still making "glassine" by spraying tracing paper and vellum with spray acrylic!!! Your ideas are always TOTALLY COOL!!! Thank you for the video. This is just cool, I wonder sometimes where you get these ideas from. I never see them anywhere else which is also one of the reasons that every time Your name pops up I click on it . Thanks a bunch for another cool technique to use. Hope all is well and the weather is bright and sunny where you are. I am in Alberta Canada and yesterday we had a few snowflakes and today it is warm and sunny. We always say if you don't like the weather here wait five minutes it will change. LOL Take Care Hugs and Smiles ps I got my first jab today we are way behind compared to the US and almost everywhere else.

very cool technique. Have you ever sprinkled instant coffee crystals on the wet/damp areas? I think that would be cool. Yes, I'll do it. Alcohol inks make a nice effect on fabric; similar technique. They dry much lighter that when wet, too. If I remember correctly, alcohol inks are set with a hot iron.

It also looks like alcohol ink the way it pushes the color to the edges and inks on water for marbling paper - great effect! btw I'm not saying these mediums for fabric - I especially don't believe the alcohol ink would work as it dry almost instantly, but then again if you added more plain alcohol to the center it might move????
@tharp2499

It reminded me of the way alcohol inks react, as well. Don't you just wanna try everything after watching a "Nik video"?? She always inspires me to think out of the box!💗

I have a bunch of blueberries I canned myself. But they're getting a bit old. That's gotta work for this. I'm going to try a bedsheet. My fingers were purple for two weeks after canning.

I'm thinking, if I need to concentrate it more, maybe I can boil the extra moisture out. It's all free to me so I'll try.

One last thing. When you have a stain on your clothing, you never put the item in the dryer. I have been able to get ink out by never setting the stain with heat after several washes. So in this case,I'll set the color with an iron or dryer. Reverse thinking.

I wonder how those cheap markers would work? Take the end off and blow in it. Color splatters. Another thing I'll try.

I use an iron to dry it. Not a good iron. I have an older iron I use for this stuff. Really good for the gungy water spots.

Does this work as well on paper?
@Meanne77
@Meanne77 3 жыл бұрын
kinda of but the paper doesn't soak up liquid the same way. but you can def. work layers with paper as well (i do my "mug of coffee imprint" that way. first stain the whole sheet of paper and once it's dry i dip a glass or something round in my coffee solution then press it on the paper to leave a mark)
