Jet engines demand very close tolerances and the allowances given are extremely extremely less. For instance, a friend of mine who works in an affiliated company of DRDO, works on a part which is used in BrahMos missile. He had told me once, that the tolerances values are (+- 0.02 mm) To give a perspective, that is almost 100 times thinner than a human hair. We mechanical engineers face it very difficult to produce close tolerances. And the close the tolerances are, the costs literally sky rocket. I remember during one of the production trials, we used a small measuring device to check the roughness value of a surface. That small device (about the size of a pen's nib, costs around 50-60k INR. With the help of that device, we can say how smooth/rough the surfaces are. Things are very expensive in the engineering field. The concept of Kaveri engine is genuinely difficult. I do hope that India figures out a way to somehow successfully complete the engine.
@AS-ug2vq2 жыл бұрын
Hitting ±-0.02mm tolerance on a part is difficult? Human hair ranges from 0.18-0.018mm in diameter, so your comparison is off. I own a CNC shop and we routinely hit 0.02mm tolerance on ordinary car parts.

The biggest difference between a rocket engine and a turbofan (TF) engine (for aircraft) is that most of the components in TF engines rotate at VERY high speeds (rpm). This puts additional stress on the components, unlike for rocket engine components. Besides this, the TF engine components get used mission after mission. And go through thermal cycles (cycles such as startup, taxi, ground idle, takeoff, climb, cruise, flight idle, descent, ground idle, taxi, and shutdown). This creates thermal stress referral, which leads to low cycle fatigue. Such is not the case with rocket engines. This is what makes TF engine design challenging. By no means, am I implying that rocket engine design is simple, but on a one on one basis, TF engine design has added complexities.

rocket engines are usually used once and thrown away whereas jet engines are used multiple times, for far longer durations than rocket engines. that adds the dimension of maintenance and overhaul which is not there for rocket engines. it is easier to make something which works for 8 mins and thrown away than something which is supposed to work for 10,000 hours.

Everything is possible! Intention must be pious , such a corrupt country cannot help scientist ...only policians+ IAS gang+ bussiness brokers getting money here ... nothing possible with such a mindset

My Suggestions: 1. Remove the annoying music 2. Split the video into parts and Display each part's heading and talk on it like storyteller instead of monotonous teacher.

Because Rocket engine is for one time use and forget. Whereas jet engine is for life long use and should be maintainable.

Make a team jet engine manufacture in India will have mechanical, electrical ,chemical engineers cozzz इतना आसान नही तो इतना मुश्किल भी नही engineering project main kuch students jet engine ka module(mini jet engine)banate hai Agar DRDO ko fund mil jaye jet engine ke liye to develop hi hoga

In rocket science India got great help by France n Russia To bring India at par wth china BT they r not willing to gv the technology of jets as they sell fighter planes n earn lot of money. Pak also got nuclear technology from China.

Dr Kalam was responsible for rapid growth in India's rocketry. Unfortunately there was no such person to lead in development of fighter jet engines.
