This aligns with Rogue's character, in season 3 her original lover comes back and she is able to have human contact, so she left Gambit. For Rogue she will always go for the relationship where she is able to have human contact and if the person is a good guy, over her a relationship that she loves but isn't able to have that human contact. However I do think my boy Gambit deserves better and that they both get back together. I see Rogue in this season being a lot more sympathetic, so it could lead to her being very conflicted with her going behind his back to see Magneto, since the only people that know about her current endeavors are Gambit, Magneto, and herself.

So I theorize that rogue power allows her to absorb another persons life force within that very small distance of the electromagnetic field between everything we touch. So as long as magneto creates another very thin layer over himself then not only will it feel like actual touch but it would be basically the same while being out of reach of her power. You've always got Rogue acting incredibly out of character, using bad judgement, and not being on her guard with him when she absolutely should be. Part of the justification for their relationship is that in some versions Magento is the only person who can touch Rogue, but first of all, that makes Rogue look incredible superficial, that she would just go with ANYONE just because they can physically touch, and makes it seem like their relationship is based on desperation rather than love, which only adds to the creepiness. I am also ordinarily a big fan of Magneto and I think this relationship makes him look like a dirty old man for going after someone younger than his kids who he knows may be desperate. I really can't believe they brought it up in the new show because they was absolutely nothing between these characters in the OG show, in fact Rogue openly stated at Magneto's funeral (Charles thought he was dead) in the OG show that she wasn't thinking about him because she worried about Gambit. So in the new show, I'm disappointed because after wanting some new content for my favorite X-men for years, she's just made out to look super bad because it seemed she and Gambit were kind of together but now she's being called "cheater" for holding hands with Erik (which is pretty big for her). It's also creepy because, based on the show's original timeline, Roque joined the X-men as a teenager
