Apparently, test screenings of ROTB implied that the front half of the garbage truck was Mirage, and the back half was holographic. However, I kind of like the idea that he was basically able to stretch his mass out as far as he could.

My theory was that Mirage was a Triple Changer just like Bayverse Drift except with the rare ability to scan and transform more than 3 vehicles. As for the garbage truck, I was theorising that this is the result of Mass shifting which was introduced in the G1 cartoon, which also explains why Mirage can transform into something that is not his size like the garbage truck and the exo-suit

The exo suit was made from Mirage remain part after got blasted by Scourge we can see that a lot of his part got blasted away so it is easy for him to turn into an exo suit but here another thing where is mirage spark? Not only mirage has this ability The protoform from the transformers 2007 ds game the character that we play has this ability to change different vehicle without scanning a new one and that we can save the form then we can change to the vehicle we wanna use but when you scan a truck you become a heavy soldier and sometimes become big or sometimes tall if you scan certain vehicle

In ROTB Mirage is not Dino because this is not the same Mirage as Dotm, ROTB is a reboot and in Dotm he was only called Dino because Bay wanted the specific car he turned into to be in the movie so Mirage was given the name of the company's ceo's son while every other media besides his SS figure would call him Mirage. ROTB doesn't have this problem and again is a reboot so he is only Mirage

Mirage has a version of Mul- T-cog. Similar to the rescue bots. But like Bumblebee, Prime and Mudflap and Skids from the bayverse has multiple saved scan alt mode. Though the bayverse versions never showed any indications that they can revert back to the previous modes and need to be able to scan new similar type to take on new form. This might be one of Mirage talents. In G1 he was thr invisible guy that becomes invisible but somehow get a footprint mark when ability is active. The Hologram guy was Hound from G1 and Prowl from animated.

this is not the first time we saw this. the actual first time was during the Transformers DS game that dropped in 2007 to tie in with the 1st movie. your custom character in that game canonically had the power to scan alt modes and save them in their memory for later use.
