He is. He was shoe horned in as Fury's son to help sell comics as a movie tie in. The original Fury was unceremoniously dumped on the moon as a " watcher". And they wonder why comics don't sell anymore. I'd feel the same if the black panther was suddenly white, and it annoyed the ancient one was a woman instead of a Tibetan man in the movies. I suppose I've gone from racist, to white ally, to sense in fell swoop.

This is for the Nick Fury I grew up with in the 60's, he was a Sgt in the Army and had a German grenade explode near his face. After being treated by a Doctor who said unless he got his treated he would loose it with in a year or so. So when he was promoted to Col. and put in charge of SHIELD he had an eye patch by then. Not to be racist, I prefer Nick being white since he was white when I was growing up, though I enjoyed seeing him take out those cops who wanted to see his lease.

Exactly. The Dr said he needed to have his eye treated or he would loose it. Nick asked how long, the Dr said it would take a year Nick said no since he didn't want to leave the Howling Commandos along for that long. Good to know someone else knows how Nick lost his eye, also he was white not black. Not being racist, just that I grew up in the 60s and that was how Nick Fury was.

If you watch an episode of spider-man the animated series I don’t know which episode it was but that nick fury the white one was sucked up into a trans dimensional portal and then the current nick fury who is from an alternate universe is black with a similar back story

I actually liked Battle Scars. I think it was a good way of introducing him. Besides, Fury Sr, Logan & Sabertooth probably have a football sized team of children anyway lol. I would've like to have seen Jr interact with Sr more, to learn the ropes. However, Jr doesn't command that respect or mystique that his pops has.

I was recommended this while looking at comic-con cosplayer props. As a former comic book collector, this is the origin story I remembered of Nick Fury’s eye patch origin. Not the Brie Larson crapshow telling of it. I was surprised to learn the movie T-shirt fans were gobsmacked by the true story of his injury. Specially considering what said/implied by Fury in “Winter Soldier” As opposed to what was shitted out in Captain Marvel. A little aside: Movie T-shirt fans are very much less informed of any superhero origin story and had only gotten interested in any comic book character (mostly Marvel, of course) via the movies put out and were so impressed by such, they buy cool movie t-shirts and TLDR things via internet “cliff notes”. Only. I reject your reality and insert my own. I thought Brie Larson is a terrible choice for Captain Marvel, which is unfortunate because she a good actress, yet was deadpanned when portraying this character. She hardly made a blip on the “Ripley Scale”. But cause she comes off as America’s sweetheart compared to Captain Marvel. She would’ve possibly made a good supergirl or squirrelmgirl,mtheyre too white bread that would’ve worked. A name that could fix/reverse all that. Just one name. Mackenzie Davis. Of the flopped latest terminator franchise “Dark Fate”. Look at that character. Look at those fight scenes. She is Captain Marvel. Almost topping the “Ripley Scale”. She could’ve done for Captain Marvel what Robert Downey, Jr. has done for Tony Stark/Iron Man. Chris Evans for Steve Rogers/Captain America. Not. Brie.. Larsen.

The black Nick Fury was from the Ultimate Comics, written by Mark Millar. He wanted a refreshing new take on the character and based the look on Samuel L. Jackson (the ultimate comics came out before Sam Jackson ever portrayed Nick Fury in the movies). Mark Millar just thought it’d be cool to base Nick Fury off one of the best actors. And I agree.

The MCU version is based on the likeness of Samuel L. Jackson because Marvel made the Ultimates comic universe. The new take on Marvel characters meant that artists were not locked into the Classic 616 chronology. Captain America was not found in the 60's, he was found post 2000. The man running S.H.I.E.L.D. with the name of Nick Fury looked exactly like Samuel L. Jackson but there had not been any permission to use his likeness. He settled for a guarantee to play Nick Fury if the role came up in a movie.
