all the korean video stores were in back of the korean grocery stores in the east coast.

This reminds me of how difficult it was to see old seasons of Doctor Who before the 2005 return. Back then it was like an entire lifestyle that sucked up all your free time for years, nowadays it's "Turn on Britbox." But you had a tremendous sense of accomplishment that went along with it. As a white westerner, I would not have the opportunity to see kdramas without it being made easier, so I am happy for that. This video also reminded me of the scramble to get new volumes of "Full House" as they came out, as depicted in Twenty-five Twenty-one

The memories! My parents got their videos from the Korean grocery store. It was in the back of the store and there would be an entire wall of VCRs just making multiple copies of shows. Those were the days.....

Dang that just brings back memories. That’s exactly how I watched all historical Korean dramas like Dae-Jang-Geum and Joo Mong!

OMG I completely forgot about the Korean video stores! Wow. My mom was definitely at the video store every week. I doubt they were "legal". 🤣

Ah the memories. Oppa and I used to beg mom to let us rent tapes of Dragonball Z....which was interesting because neither of us understood Japanese and we could barely read Hangul. 😂

What brought my fascination to S. Korea and it's culture- S. Korean KZbinrs . Beautiful, witty, and so articulate. That is when I began watching S. Korean shows , and cannot get enough of KPop. 🏆

well, in the 90s, when I was in high school, we somehow got KBS and MBC dramas on public access cable channels in my town in California, hahahhaha, with no subtitles so you had to just guess what was happening, lol

Omg! ER! My parents would tape it EVERY week and then watch it as they could in the evenings before bed! Wow definietly next level to get shows that weren't on mainstream! It's funny to think about how times have changed!

I know these video tapes. My best friend’s mom always had a stack sitting beside the VCR and I would catch some of the shows and be bummed that there were no English subtitles because the dramas always seemed so intense! And now I get to watch all the K-dramas my heart desires, but I don’t have her to gossip with about them 😢

You had to depend on movie reviewers to tell you about foreign films, then you ordered the DVD! (or you watched BRAVO! on cable and copied the movie to your VCR)
