I know they've fought, but he's definitely not been anywhere near Spidey's "A-List" in a long time. Though we should remember that this episode is itself probably very old too! So perhaps it wasn't such an anachronism at that point.

i would say he's the most prominent villain in NYC, it makes sense he would be the enemy of the two most prominent NYC based heroes
@acoupleofschoes2 ай бұрын
Kingpin had a sniper target Mary Jane, but they ended up hitting Aunt May. Peter's subsequent beat-down on Kingpin is one of his most iconic and violent moments, showing just how strong and capable he actually is. Everything Kingpin did eventually led to One More Day.
@youremakingprogress1442 ай бұрын
Kingpin originally used more science-fiction gadgets, like a ring that would shoot sleeping gas, so he was more Spider-Man's type of villain. Then Daredevil developed and became more popular and Kingpin became more realistic, so Daredevil was the better fit to take him on in terms of power levels (and arguably in tone).

Gene Luen Yang, author of American Born Chinese among other books, wrote a modern version of the Superklan storyline called Superman Smashes the Klan a few years back. Pretty good too!

I think there are a host of villains who had more dealings with Spider-Man than Kingpin, who was much more prominent in Daredevil books. I never disliked Johnathan Ross, but now his star has greatly brightened for me.

I did not know the fact of a Superman storyline where he fought America's domestic terrorists, the KKK, and that the storyline brought real life recruitment to zero. Wonderful! If only a new storyline of Superman fighting all forms of white supremacy/nationalism can be written and drawn. If that brought current recruitment to zero, then that would be a "blessing". 🌸
@leeshajoi2 ай бұрын
Gene Luen Yang adapted that story into a 3-part comic series called "Superman Smashes the Klan." I recommend seeking out the TPB.

Well, the reaction to a comic involving "Superman versus MAGA" would be rather extreme, I think. There would be outrage across the country, I'm pretty sure. We live in a different time.

@@SimonMoon5 Comic books have stirred up outrage from the right for a very long time now. When Captain America was created, and specifically fought Nazis in his early issues (even punching out Hitler on the cover of his first issue), the American right was incensed. Simon and Kirby received death threats, and even people coming to their workplace to harass them. (Kirby gave back as good as he got, of course, always willing to punch a Nazi - that's the kind of guy he was.)

Gosh. Given my usual routine, I wonder what they'll do with that information?! Nothing. That's what. Absolutely nothing. Just as they'll do absolutely nothing with whatever tedious, mind-numbing information they might get by bothering to monitor *your* phone. The reality is, they may have the ability to track your phone, but nobody outside of work or your loved ones cares what you do or where you go.
@ferretyluv2 ай бұрын
Government less so. If the government were as good as corporations as tracking you, we wouldn’t have mass shootings, gangs would be arrested en masse, and drug dealers wouldn’t be able to operate. If you’ve ever done any work with the government, you’d see that it’s so inefficient, overworked and understaffed (by design, thanks GOP), they can’t really do much unless you’re really stupid and brazen about committing crimes. Basically, if you’re not making regular trips to Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Syria, the government doesn’t care about you. You’re much more likely to get bumped off by corpos as a whistleblower.
