I laughed when I heard that too. Not a big fan of the ass comments purely cause it's lame enough when the odd person does it. After all, sexual stuff is quite personal and each person has their own line. At least between mates there is the chance to judge what is appropriate, to say such stuff to a stranger is usually too much. Even if things are a bit different on the internet the same social rules loosely apply.

@@theinacircleoftheancientpu492 I'm with you on this as a general rule, it can be quite problematic when people sexualize someone they only have a parasocial relationship with and I think people should err on the side of not doing it. But when it blows up among an audience in such a way where it appears the creator is cool with it (I can only guess, based on his lack of ever having said otherwise and occasionally playing into the jokes) then I think that's totally fine. Hard to say how it can get there if all people were hypothetically more cautious in the first place, but I guess we can always count on someone pointing out attractiveness in any audience large enough and see where it goes from there lol. Also I'm usually the first to point out issues with gender double standards, males can absolutely be harassed and victimized in unacceptable ways, but in a particular subculture like this where it's mostly men giving bromance vibes toward a male creator, I think it (generally) carries a more wholesome tone overall (as long as the creator doesn't mind it, as always) than often happens in other circumstances. Dudes just don't get enough compliments and general affection in today's society and I like seeing it normalized gradually for them to step up and give that reinforcement to each other, even if it's often in kinda crude ways lol

I believe the pole axe (the shorter weapon) came along later than the billhook and has a completely different purpose. It was extremely popular for fighting foes in very heavy armor after plate armor had reached its highest level of development. It was to be used in closer quarters than a billhook, halberd or the like. It is very hard to use a long weapon in the press, as they called it when large numbers of people were pressed together in a melee. The short shaft allowed for stabbing at very close range. The billhook was used by more lightly armored troops in large masses, but even they carried a hanger or the like for use in the press, when the reach advantage of the polearm became a liability. If you look at the construction of the two they are for completely different purposes
@knoathing
@knoathing Жыл бұрын
He actually went through and rehafted the billhook in the video a little bit ago to give it the longer haft. I think the pole axe is mostly just there to give a frame of reference for the length it used to be. Its super interesting to get to hear a breakdown on the differences between the two though! Thank you for that 😄

Hema is a category of martial arts fighting systems. Do you want fast, fluid, and technical bladework with 1h or 2h swords? The german styles, from Meyer and Liechtenauer may interest you. Do you wish to grapple, disarm your opponent, or otherwise use biomechanics and human geometry to your advantage? The italian styles, like Fiore's methods may be your best bet. What about fighting like zorro with a rapier and even a cloak? The spanish "Destreza" might be what you're looking for. If you want to learn from the east, kenjutsu, iaido, or even advanced levels of Kung Fu, where you can learn techniques for the jian or dao, might fit the bill. Good luck, and train hard!

Buy a fiberglass extending handle and you have the ultimate setup. Collapsible for tighter quarters, but you can twist, extend, twist and you have a full length pole for long reach! Those poles are crazy strong too! I have one that I got years ago to use as a training bo/quarter staff and it still locks and extends with a slight twist, stays locked under extreme force and I’ve beaten the shit out of it for dozens of hours and it’s still strong. I’ve done staff on staff impact, staff to bag, and hundreds of drops and bashes from trying fast spins or tosses that hit the ground. They make long ones for painting or even collapsible shovel and tool handles… for training and use ability it’s absolutely worth it in my opinion.

The billhook was used behind the shieldline where the billhook would be able to pull down the opposite shield wall(hook down) then the poll hammer would be able to break through the line, it was just one of the potential strategies used to break the wall. Rather than just pound the wall until so.ething broke/gave way.
