I wish there was more to learn about the dacians. I wonder what our language would sound like if the romans didn"t conquered them...

we wouldn't know because the Slavs set their rule over us afterwards, as in Medieval Principalities of modern day Romania, our language was very similar to the other Slavic languages from around us, up until the 18th-19th Centuries, when the phenomenon of Latinisation happened. The truth is that, the same thing happened to Bulgaria and all of the former Yugoslavia, but we chose to go back to our Latin roots.

"Latin roots".... A civilization who dates back from 2500 BC, looses 20% of its land to another civilization for about 170 years. You think the roots of that civilizations will be modified cause of that 20% loose of the teritory ? The romans occupied Jerusalem for more than 300 yeras, yet there are no latin roots there. Dacia not only had gold and silver mines, but also salt. Salt was a sought out commodity, soldiers' wages were paid in salt (hence salary).

The Romanians are of Dacian and Roman origins, with Slavic influence

@ic_Events.Explained The Romanians are the descendents of Tracians and Dacians, the Roman origin is false, for the Roman Empire conquered 20% of Dacia, and the 100 or so years they stood there is not nearly enough to wipe out or change the genes of the people. Dacia is far more ancient that Rome itself. In northern Italy, there were discoveries of Dacians and Tracians artifacts and bones, who dated from 2500 BC. Tracians are so old in the Black sea region, new discoveries have prooven that they are more ancient than the greeks. And Greeks actually borrowed Gods from the Tracians. To say that Romanians are of Roman and Dacian origins is wrong. The ancestors of Romanians are Dacians And Tracians, who were possibly the oldest culture in Europe. When Rome wasn't even founded, Tracia was prospering, and was an empire built on relations, wealth, battles, knowledge and religion,. The Zalmoxian religion, predates Christianity by at least 800 years. Edit : Also the Roman Empire had to pull troops from each region of the empire and made the largest ever army at that time to invade Dacia. The Romans knew how powerful the Dacians are, they had huge respect for Dacians and Tracians, in fact in Rome there were hundreds of sculptures fo Dacians and Tracians depicting them as warrios, conquerors, not as a defeated enemy, no other conquered empire by Rome had this special status. Too bad Dacians and Tracians didn't write, we can only find out stuff from the from other neighbouring nations such as Greece, and the Roman Empire. But their influence and impact on Europe's first civilizations is trully amazing and remarkable. They were the first people to believe that the soul lives on after the body dies. And each soul has a place in the sky. Dacians and Tracians weren't afraid to die, Zalmoxe told them that they will not die, they will just be relocated somewhere else.

@@bmjupiterboardmod492 I listened to romanian historians speak, i listened to archaeologist speak, i listened to history experts and teachers speak, i know what i am saying, don't tell me to shut up, i don't care if you wife is romanian. I am romanian , and i know the history of the lands i live in. I even listened to italian archaeologists and historians say that the Latin language the romans used, was a mix from dacian and greek languages. Research about the Dacian people, then i will give you the permission to speak about them . I think i know more history, than a guy from Lazio and his romanian wife. I know more history about the italian peninsula, than you know about yourself. So please, YOU shut up, go grab your romanian wife and bake a pizza, or pasta.

The Golden Mines is a subject of debate in modern day archaeology, because most archaeologists came to the conclusion that Trajan didn't know about the Dacian Gold until after the conquest of Dacia. The main reason for the Dacian Conquest was, most likely, to show the might of Rome, and the might of Trajan himself, as he had no military experience before these wars, unlike other Roman Emperors.
