The Titanic was a massive cruise ship that was commonly viewed as indestructible. When it began its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City in 1912, voyagers indulged in some of the most elegant luxuries of the time. But the state-of-the-art safety equipment wasn’t enough to keep the ship afloat after striking a massive iceberg; more than 1,500 people died. Now the infamous ship rests 12,000 feet deep in the Atlantic Ocean, about 400 miles southeast of Newfoundland. This video will reveal some little-known facts from this iconic story that intrigues historians to this day.

Lenka NA No, it's the wild human ego. An iceberg doesn't occupy nobody's space. It's just resting on the huge ocean minding its own business occupying a very tiny space of its own on the big open ocean allowing anybody anywhere around her but herself. It's the wild human ego which believes their idiotic ship is bigger than the sea, which ignores all ice warnings, keeps sailing in the dark of the entire night and at full speed.

Titanic met the Board Of Trade safety of life at sea regulations and inspections, part of which was the requisite number of lifeboats. Oh and Titanic was a ship and not a boat. Titanic sank because she collided with an iceberg and had damage to five watertight compartments. If she had damaged two, possibly three watertight divisions she stood a good chance of staying afloat. With damage to 5 she was doomed.

There was a woman who boarded Titanic. She didn't want to go but her husband insisted. She said in an interview, calling it unsinkable was challenging God himself and that made her uneasy about the trip. She got into a lifeboat but her husband did not. It's sad to think that throughout the trip she was already anticipating the possibility of the tragedy and unfortunately it did happen.

I need to point out some things: First, Titanic was not the sole ship labeled "unsinkable". At that time, all modern cruise ships were thought to be unsinkable, in large part because the Kronprinz Wilhelm survived hitting an iceberg head on. Second, the lack of lifeboats had nothing to do with Titanic, or any ship of its day, being labeled unsinkable. Titanic actually had more lifeboats than were required by law at the time. Furthermore, back then lifeboats were meant to ferry passengers and crew to a rescue ship- not to act as life rafts. Thus, the conclusion that more lifeboats were unnecessary was, at the time, a reasonable one.

Ironically the Whilhelm didn't sink because it hit the iceberg head on instead of the iceberg scraping the side like the titanic. It's theorised that if the titanic wasn't turned and hit it head on, the compartments wouldn't have been competely filled and would have been alright.

Lol. In other news... water is wet.. pretty much every documentary ever on the titanic states this, shoot they did an entire documentary just on the life boats of the titanic. It's all pretty common knowledge and why they tried to demonize the designer for the lack of boats. We see, time and time again, disasters happening because of cut corners, especially in the air industry, which is caused by inadequate safety recommendations and laws which are always changed after the fact, suggesting it should have been that way always. I think we need to break this attitude of good enough and just doing or jobs and start doing what's right. So what if the recommendations or laws at the time said whatever, they were obviously wrong and were changed directly after this. So in conclusion, owners and designers and legislators should be held accountable more and maybe they'll do their jobs better and treat us as human beings and not just revenue or statistics.

I’ll sum the video up: The ship was ordered full speed, the ship ignored iceberg warnings, It hit an iceberg, 5 compartments were flooded which was 1 too many, the ship took on water and it spilled over the bulkheads, it split, and sank the the bottom. There were also a shortage of lifeboats for a stupid reason. “It would look too cluttered.” The bow sank like a torpedo, the stern sank like a torpedo until an engine ruptured and debris came flying off. It crashed into the sand and over the years it got rusty and now there are bacteria eating it up. I just saved you 4 minutes even though you wasted 1 minute reading this.

The question I still have as a former Naval Officer is when they spotted the Iceberg immediately ahead of them why did they shift their engines to all back and THEN try to turn? Rule 1 in avoiding an object immediately in front of you is throw your rudder over hard, as your stern begins to near the object shift your rudder to the opposite side so that you kick out and miss. By cutting their engines they reduced their rate of turn SIGNIFICANTLY and my question is how did some of the most experienced ship officers of the time make such a simple mistake.

Mack Turrican Not according to official reports and testimony. The incident was heavily investigated and those involved questioned. My best theory is they would usually have spotted an Iceberg 30+ minutes out and typically slowing down and alterning course would have been the right maneuver. But this was more like 30 seconds out. I think in their panic they went to what they were familiar with rather than the appropriate reaction. But again for so many experienced officers to allow this still begs the question.

Richard Powell the first conspiracy. *shifty eyes* -JP Morgan financed white star liner. - First red flag. I’m going to guess the passengers or cargo was a problem for the establishment of the day. Mistakes only get made through ego or “mistakes” happen out of greed. So the Captan was showboating, or they were all asleep or it was on purpose. Only options.

The titanic actually did have enough life boats and safety equipment on board because the law required alot less than what was put onboard, because at the time life boats were only for moving passengers across to another rescue vessel, not a complete evacuation at once.

She didn’t weigh 46000 tons, she had a gross register tonnage of 46000. GRT is actually a measure of volume (a cubic foot = 1 GRT). She displaced 66000 tons of water which is a better estimate of her weight.

The topic of the Titanic has captivated my attention since childhood. As a psychologist and someone passionate about the study of human behavior, I find the event truly awe-inspiring. When I reflect empathetically, I can only imagine the sheer terror that the people aboard the ship must have experienced. Considering the circumstances - the frigid water, the darkness of the night, and the uncertainty of having nowhere to escape - it must have been an unimaginable ordeal, plunging into the depths of that dark and cold ocean.
