will never be in the market for a swag, but I had to watch the whole video for your entertaining presentation😁

I’m a stickler for accuracy and I’d bet those measurement discrepancies are a result of random production changes for various reasons and just a lack of diligence/care in keeping documentation up to date. I don’t think they would have the care-factor or ability to purposely lie about it, although it is interesting all the inaccuracies are stating larger sizes than reality! 🧐 Great vid as always. Let’s hope the multi-bloke rating becomes a new standard between manufacturers.

Great video Alex! I found if you get in early with Kings gear the quality is better and then the later iterations aren’t as good. As for the measurements of the swag it might be based of the dimensions of the pvc, which I think is deceitful but makes sense based off your measurements. Great video mate, it’s easy to hate on these products but it was good to see a balanced review on a swag that many people would have purchased or look at based on the price.
@Paulo-r9z16 сағат бұрын
Yeah I thought it might be the pvc dimensions. Not sure if that is common across all brands though

Thanks for the review mate! I have the kings single swag and big daddy for about 3years and used them extensively- beach camping, snowy mountains, North Queensland, side of hwys etc etc they’ve copped wind, rain, hard rain, tropical rain. Can’t really complain for the price I started camping during Covid not sure I was going to get into it? To be honest when these swags start failing I’ll look at upgrading but when the competitors prices start 2x or 3x kings prices which have lasted 3years and still going it’ll be a hard choice

As a European now living in Australia, i really don't understand why swags are even a thing. Why not just get a regular camping tent that weighs 2 kg, it's waterproof, and packs down small? Camping tents offer much more headroom , they have a vestibule you can use for cooking or storing gear , they can be set up without rainfly so you can enjoy a starry sky. Why would i chose a swag over a regual tent ? I really don't get it. Cheers

This is a comment I've had a few times, I think the swag is a fairly Australian thing. We have an obsession with canvas too, we love sleeping under canvas.
@jimbojumbo-os1np5 сағат бұрын
I prefer a tent too but i pack both because a tent is fine until the wind picks up, a storm comes along or it drops under 0c. Here in QLD at least when you get wind or storms its often enough to rip a tent down and if the tent can survive youve got to try and sleep while it flaps about.
@wobblysauce5 сағат бұрын
Yep, Swaps are an Aussie thing, some US have Bivy. It was a multiple-purpose item that has changed over time. They used to be poleless, with just a few flaps and a woollen blanket, but it was about durability and lasting you, most tents could fail with a bad fart.

My 8 year old kings swag is constructed differently, it has never leaked, the mattress is thick and the zips and flys are still great, it has had heaps of use. Two poles broke and were replaced under warranty. Looks like instead of increasing prices they are using cheaper suppliers.

Great video, love it. Some info for you, I bought 2 of these a couple of years ago for my boys, they have folded seams like yours, I bought another a couple of months ago it has a flat seam. The bags on the older ones are much larger at 900 x 450 x 400 roughly and the new one is much smaller at 800 x 300 x 350. Did you check the bag dimensions against what was advertised? I haven’t compared the dimensions between the old and new swag, but am now wondering. Keep up the great reviews. Cheers Nick

The bags I have seen are quite a bit over the size labelled on the site in all dimensions.

I binned my swags and got a tent and a hiking mattress. Takes up almost zero space and about 2kg combined. Never going back to swags.
@bestestusername7 сағат бұрын
Same here, my tent, mattress, and sleeping bag take up less than half that size and is only just under 3kg. I had a swag once but it was just to bulky, I can go away now and not look like I am going away for weeks!

This vid will hopefully blow up, great review. I'm curious though, the swag you have is different to my 3 year old kings swag, the ends are different, the weather cover is larger in mine, the size itself seems different. If you would like to compare, give me a shout.

What you have is a very varied QC product, i.e., none. I have 1 that is mint. Mate has 1 that has problems, as you've mentioned. I got mine a few years ago. Him more decently. Definitely feels like a grab the market, then build it cheaper (crapper) kind of deal

I’ve used the kings double swag only a few times and the eyelets the spreader go through both fell out on the second use, will definately be going for a better quality swag for my next purchase.
@Camping_reviews8 сағат бұрын
Same as happened on this one hey? No surprise I guess. Do you find that swag comfortable otherwise? I've heard people swear by the doubles
@DamoLawrie6 сағат бұрын
@@Camping_reviews kids have a couple of different brand swags from singles to doubles, that eyelet is a common failure in all of them. Not sure what a more expensive brand does different to make them better but I can't find really good replacement eyelet kits to do a good job of fixing them. Maybe a video just on quality places to get quality spares - specific and generic 🤷♂️

That’s a fair review. If you’re buying a $100 swag you know you’re not going to get a roll-up Taj Mahal. If you’re only going to use it couple of times a year, if that, this seems good enough value. The wrong measurements are just dumb. At worst it contravenes the ACL, at best it’s just a stupid stuff up. The leaky seam is not acceptable and that’s why I wouldn’t buy one.

Helpful review I bought the 100mm “self inflating “ mattress - more like 50mm unless you blow it up
@wobblysauce5 сағат бұрын
Self-inflation is the bulk of the work, so you don't start seeing things before you pass out. However, you can add a bit more for your preference. Some like soft, and others like to bounce a coin.

Mate sounds spot on to me..... I had friends with the "big daddy" swear they seasoned it but it leaked bad on a trip.... I did also by myself the earlier big daddy (horizon) but I've only every used it covered or in clear sky's...... But? It kings? What can you expect.....

Ok, so I’m on my second Kings swag. The first was a double. Brilliant swag. Myself, my wife and our son fitted easily. Nice thick mattress. But… it was heavy. Very heavy. I always battled getting it up on my roof. So I sold it and got the same swag you reviewed. Good swag…kinda. I weigh 75 kilo. The mattress that came with it was absolutely garbage. It was “supposed” to self inflate. Right. I wonder when and how long was that suppose to take. Now I’ll be honest. I have a truck load of Kings products. They should give me discount for loyalty and money spent. I go back when they were called Tigerz11. This swag is the first Kings product I would NOT recommend.
@DamoLawrie6 сағат бұрын
The tigerz11 stuff was worse than the king's branded stuff! Got the standard awning, first use was swinging the arms out and the hinge bit snapped clean off, was literally no pressure other than a gentle outwards movement to swing it into position. To their credit they sent me 2 new plastic replacements and 2 aluminium replacements. The aluminium ones were still on there until the day the wind sent the awning over the roof

Another con I found with this swag is not being able to roll it up with bedding in it as the straps are too short. I paid $69 for mine and I just bought it for the poles but I have a lot of kings gear and like it all, just not this single swag

@Camping_reviews9 сағат бұрын
I submitted a general enquiry to the effect of "hey, did you realise that your mattress is wrong, and the length and width?" And got a generic response to the effect of 'thank you for contacting, please send pictures and describe the nature of your claim, and whether you want a refund or exchange and so on' I hadn't asked for that, just suggested they check their specs

Often thought about getting a swag to see what they are like but got a Coleman pop up 4 person tent instead (currently around $149). Very light, folds flat and quicker to set up than anything else we have ever tried. Nowhere near as heavy duty as a swag but I am surprised that it has already lasted a few years with very fewproblems and it has way more room inside than a swag. We had to get our own mattress for it but that is fine was we want very thick mattresses. As for 4 Person - LOL, total BS. 2 person maximum if you want to be comfortable.

Kings make alot of good gear. They make alot of garbage as well. Their swags are in the garbage section. They are made very cheaply. We have bought 3. Im still on my first. My son is on his second, and today we are going shopping for his 3rd. Wont be another Kings. The canvas on them is ok, but the stitching is trash. Thats their downfall. The hoop poles are also trash. We always carry spare loop poles because they break. Very often! The matress is next to useless, i use a second matress to keep myself off the ground. I only weight 85kgs. Agree. Buy one if youre new to camping. Then if you like it, pay real money, and go quality.

As an aussie I cannot understand the fascination with swags, my 2 man tent from oztrail is waterproof, lighter, packs smaller....as a matter of fact my tent, sleeping bag and sleep pad is lighter and smaller than that swag all together as reviewed. I am dismayed at utes driving around with massive rolled up sleeping swags on roof racks due to being to large to pack. I got some kings stuff and they work but these things are mostly useless.
