You asked a couple times if Kim had "responded" to the movie, yes, his response was to have a team of hackers find and release tons of private information from Sony Pictures computers (the studio that was releasing the movie), many of it pretty bad, exposing major stars as spoiled assholes and difficult to work with (I believe Angelina Jolie and Kevin Hart among them) and later threatened to attack and/or kill anyone who screened the movie, leading to cancellation of all premieres and special events, and Rogen and Franco cancelled any promo appearances. Because of all this, the movie never saw a theatrical release in the US and instead was released online for free, later available for a price on streaming sites.

So funny story...I was stationed in South Korea during the time all the marketing for this movie (trailers and such) was done and the day that the first trailer released, North Korea Launched a rocket into the pacific ocean. The prevailing theory is that Kim Jong Un saw that trailer and threw a temper tantrum because the movie was making fun of him. The result was everyone on base had to go on a 24 hour Alert where we had to standby in all our gear just in case some shit hit the fan. Also this movie was not shown in theaters in Korea but that was easily bypassed with a VPN lol.

11:13 nope, there's a lot of people there who actually believe that Just to give you an idea: a while ago there was a documentary called Inside North Korea. A doctor was invited to perform cataract surgery on a select number of people, and a documentary crew posed as the doctors helpers while filming everything they could. Context note: when I say a while ago, I mean this was back when Kim Jung Il was the leader. The patients admitted to them that the worst thing about being blind is not being able to see their leader. And when the surgeries proved successful? They thanked their leader instead of the doctor.

0:30 Believe it or not, that's not a joke. Those are the kinds of songs kids in North Korea are taught as nursery rhymes. The lyrics may be original, but otherwise that's a real thing. If you think about it, that was the filmmakers telling the audience that jokes aside, they were taking the subject matter seriously.

Funniest thing wasn't the movie, it was the threats. I know lives were probably at stake, and they would carry through on the threats, but all the threats Obama and the White House received threatening terrorist attacks if the US released the film was probably a bigger marketing scheme than just releasing the movie.
