The Yamato-1 was among the most curious types of ships ever designed. The principle behind running this ship is called MagnetoHydrodynamics. In this video, we explain what’s so different with this ship and also how it works.

With the new high temperature super conductors coming through the research process and peer review this could again be a very exciting prospect!

The generated magnetic fields can be detected by foes, I'm sure he said that in the end of the video.

@@dae1925 Doesn't work. Magnetic anomaly detectors can pick up a submarine just by the presence of a large metal tube in the ocean alone due to the infinitesimally small effect it has on the earth's magnetic field. Can you imagine how easy it is for them to pick up on a submarine with actual superconducting magnets on board? It would be child's play.

Interesting. I had no idea this ship existed. The drive itself sounds impractical even on theory. But I guess they had to test it.

The concept can be developed into a suitable application to meet certain specific needs of certain ocean going vehicles, though not all of them.

so... 2x2700 hp engines to permit the system to work... a system that fills the volume and weight of at least 4 times the size of these double 2700hp engines alone... to move the ship i guess at the speed of a sailboat. Ok there must really be a genius behind this.

@@superbmediacontentcreator No, actually ur comparison is totally wrong. We are talking about what you can do with the knowledge and technology of the contemporary age. People you mentioned were ahead for their historical moment. This boat is a good experiment, but it's the only good thing you can argue about.

Actually Yamato One had a speed of 27 knots, which is rather good for a shit, it is a tiny bit slower than american destroyers

@@Nightrapture The boat WAS an experiment. Which why that other guy laughed at you. It was a technology testbed, not a commercially mature product. All new designs start somewhere. The fascination with MHD's is largely a military one. They have no moving parts, so they generate no propeller noise. As the man explained at the end, the giant magnetic field gave them away to aircraft with a magnetic anomaly detector. It's interesting tech to play with but it's unlike any practical applications will be found.
