This could be the beginning of an interesting high school elective, similar to Morbid Curiosities, for folks who wanted a course focusing on critical thinking and media literacy. Thank you for putting this out there, I've added a few titles to my list.

Ahhh thank you for sharing. I’m mom to a 15 and 12 year old and it seems like it’s much harder to explain my sadness this go round. Your familiar face and voice helped. We’re actually studying a beefed up level 6 right now so they’re familiar with the process. It still sucks so much though. Peace, Emily ❤

These are some great picks. I highly recommend Larry Gonick’s Hypercapitalism for a balanced out Economics course. It is EXCELLENT!

I think talking about how settlers treated the First People of North America is an important part of this discussion as well.

Oh absolutely. This video could have been so much longer. I think we are long overdue for a debunking of a lot of American mythology. Too many people are still looking back for a time when America was great. The potential has always been there, but we haven't reached it yet.

I am investigating an apparent phenomenon that happened the night after election. It seems many many women (myself included) woke up voluntarily around 2/3 AM. Did we feel a collective threat settle upon us? Super interesesting regardless.
@ARRRGHSchoolingАй бұрын
I've heard that! To be fair though, I always wake up at 3am due to perimenopausal insomnia, so I'm not sure I can claim anything happened, but I have heard a fair number of women seemed to experience that.

Isn't it wonderful to live in a country where freedom of and for the people prevail? I am so grateful for thw opportunity and privilege to spend days homeschooling my children. I noticed a theme in your titles and wondered why you didn't offer a balance of thinking? I for example do not feel persuaded to believe in the theory of evolution, but still teach my chdren about it and value the minds of those thinkers. Why not add Am I A Racist the new documentary by Matt Walsh? I think it is also important to point out we do not have a democracy, but a constitutional republic. If we had a total democracy the results of this election (by popular vote) would have remained the same. Either way do not despair! The freedom to have opposing views remains in our country and i delight in having those conversations with others. Glad to see your list here for consideration. Have a great day!❤
@nmalbrecht28 күн бұрын
Matt Walsh is an alt-right grifter and bigot with zero credentials to address or understand the issue of systemic racism in America. He doesn’t provide a “balanced view” he provides content for people that want to remain comfortably ignorant.
@ARRRGHSchooling28 күн бұрын
I don't think balanced means what you think it means. Viewing history from a variety of perspectives IS balanced. I honestly don't know how you get more balanced. However, bait from an internet troll is not balanced and adds nothing to the conversation. History should make you uncomfortable. That doesn't mean it's bad or wrong. It means it's being honest in the telling. If that bothers you, maybe you should sit with that.

The True or False book was a bit too much for my sensitive reader at this stage, but they did enjoy a couple subject-adjacent books on our shelf: Fake History: From Mozart's Murder to Cleopatra's Asp by Graeme Donald and Fakers: An Insider's Guide to Cons, Hoaxes, and Scams by H. P. Wood.

The rather dull and obvious explanation of how we got here is the inflation-driven anti-incumbent trend that has hit essentially every rich country around the world. I'd encourage people to read books to their kids that describe the causes and effects of inflation, but sadly many are experiencing it firsthand as their families struggle to buy groceries.
@Dusty-y6b28 күн бұрын
And also explain why things will only get worse because our planet has reached its breaking point and can’t take 8,000,000,000 humans treating the only home they’ve got like they’ve got spares laying around when they’ve used up this one.

Everyone on Earth needs to read as much Yuval Noah Harari as possible. Get your kids Unstoppable Us and Why the World Isn’t Fair. Also Aesops Fables, and teach your kids esp the story of The Woman and the Snake. Something the MAGA cult never “got”.
