In the 17th century, Japan was home to a man called "The Blue-Eyed Samurai," William Adams. He was a British sailor who, during the Age of Exploration, set out from the Netherlands towards the Orient and ended up in Japan. Serving under Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, he spent his life as a close aide, making significant contributions both as a samurai and as a diplomatic advisor during a turbulent era in Japan.

He wasn’t ‘British’, he was English. There was no nation called ‘Britain’ at the time - though there soon would be

A novel is a novel, a historical fact is a historical fact. The reality is quite different from the image that comes from fiction.

When I first read the novel nearly thirty years ago I made such a wilde image in my head about Japan only to realize later how phoney the book was😂

The basics of geometry and mathematics were taught to Tokugawa by John Adams or did he teach Tokugawa's consort? I have read both statements in various places. With the help of my wife however, I read a source document on japanese wikipedia that says Anjin taught Ieyasu's "second" or "under" person or persons.

What goods did they trade at the time?

Probably manufactured goods like printing presses, weapons, along with basic but necessary things like spices, gold/silver, wool, and wine

Japan has notoriously bad steel, so I'd bet good European steel was traded with Japan. Japanese fabrics, lacquerware and things of that nature were probably traded a lot too. There has always been weeaboos in the West.
