I think the reason this format got the numbers it did was because most of the people that grew up with the original Yu-Gi-Oh and GX finally got or an stable job or a higher paid one (post collage), making it the first or one of the first years they could afford to choose the events they wanted to play. Yu-Gi-Oh, once again, got... Lucky haha

Links being allowed to use tokens with no restrictions was a mistake. If they can use tokens there should be a mechanic that explicitly allows it. Konami seems to be figuring that out with Swordsoul, Gold Pride, and Icejade but still has a long way to go on that.

Tbh one major change I would introduce is limiting hand traps/hand quick effects to once a turn. They're functionally spells/traps with the benefit of being monsters anyway. Personally, I'm not a big fan of most decks sharing the same 10-20 cards.

Is Makyura actually a problem in this format? You can still only play one trap per turn. Junior Journey rules basically turn the card into its post-errata form.

Pre-Errata can be sent from anywhere to grave. Post-Errata only works if sent from field. It actually does matter since one version does not eat up your normal while the other does.

No one could win with these cards. Joey, your deck's filled with nothing but monster cards. Duel Monsters is all about combining your monster cards with your magic cards to increase their strength. With no magic in your deck, your monsters will be creamed every time.

I dont know about the us but in europe all meta decks were super cheap exept thunderdragons so even more casual players could easly build a tier 1 deck and do decent at events in my area that was a reason for a big glow up in atendance numbers and also creativ decks i have actually fond memories of this time and though there were annoying decks i could play a lot of fun decks

I feel like people forget about stuff like Altergeist (which was consistently tier 1 and better than Gumblar piles for most of their lifespan) or other control decks like Salad or Striker from this period. Even discounting those specific examples, control was right above these Gumblar/Rhongo/Degen Pile decks in terms of power level at almost every point that they were meta. ESPECIALLY once Striker came out. People portrayed this era as this terrible format or a place where stupid loops were everywhere, but they were often not even the top first or second best deck.

As we approach the end of this series, the spells and traps rule matters less. Additionally normal summoning things matters less. Since special summoning is the stronger mechanic generally anyways...

Spells and traps will start mattering when they get to 2020. Lots of decks in TCG use multiple spell/traps per turn going forward and losing access to those will warp strategies or make them totally unplayable like Sky Striker is.

It is a trap, it didn't conflict with Gold Sarc, which is a spell. It is not one spell/trap activation per turn. It is one spell activation. And one trap activation. And Also one set into a spell/trap or field spell zones. Three separate once per turns, added to the standard one normal summon per turn.

the lore of this series makes no sense. supposedly a hundred years into the future humanity has all but died out, and in the original version of the lore, it was the great great great great great granchildren of RJ and MBT, which didn't make sense because that's like, six generations that apparently happened within 100 years. But now in this new version, it's their actual future selves traveling back in time to tell their past selves about junior rules, but THAT doesn't make sense because it's still 100 years into the future and how is it possible that MBT and RJ live to be like 120 in a world that is torn apart by global warming? all i'm saying is, how am i supposed to write fanfiction where MBT and RJ realize that their descendants from the future are actually the descendants of their own lovechild if you guys can't even keep the timeline straight! smdh ~~in all seriousness, love this series to death lmao~~
