I think the people who are naturally flexible that just say “stretch every day” do a lot of harm in the flexibility fitness space. There needs to be intensity and proper volume. “Stretch everyday” doesn’t work if you hold a 5 second easy stretch every morning 😂 There’s no authority in the field and the literature kinda sucks so everyone just kinda goes for fad stretching trends and gets disappointed when there’s no real progress. Great video.

Plain stretching never did a thing for me other than cause frustration and a desire to not bother. RDL variants and Jefferson Curls are what got me touching the floor for the first time since I was a kid. I had also learned that it's not things like "tight" hamstrings, it's more often weak muscles and your body's own unconscious "anti-lock brakes" kicking in to stop you from getting into positions that it doesn't think you can get out of.
@MovementbyDavid20 күн бұрын
@ Plain stretching is often not intense enough for those with intense stretch reflexes. I agree with you although I use different words.
@yoeyyoey893720 күн бұрын
@@zerrodefexstretching every day does kinda work but yeah you have to really put some time and intensity in it. Ofc doing weighted dynamic stretches like you mentioned are probably overall better

the one big thing i think is a common lie in mobility is that they pretend that you can't be flexible or mobile unless you do specific stretches and so on. i'd argue that lifting weights has made me way more flexible than mobility stuff ever has. it's literally dynamic, loaded stretches. often targeted to very specific functions too. whereas some of these are just very ambiguous or like very unloaded but awkward movements. you do have to have intention with weights and be willing to push yourself to get that flexibility out of it, but i think for most people they achieve this. they act like if you only do bodybuilding you'll end up a dysfunctional, graceless clutz - my experience has been the opposite. i've never had such extreme gains in balance or coordination, nor have i gained such flexibility. i'd rather be strong and flexible rather than 10% body fat and a stick and capable of doing one very specific kind of squat that doesn't even push flexibility or anything it just relies on not being too heavy. this kind of ties into calisthenics bros too. i'm not against calisthenic movements but a lot of things they do are just really bad ways to train x. it's amazing how many people cope with developing abs / erectors and go for that whole Squat University approach of never be dynamic. another one is multiple fields, and it's that you can be healthy without cardio, or that walking is good cardio. maybe rucking, and like, intense, but in general this is such an enormous cope i see from so many people. it's so hard for people to admit they actually just don't care about x or don't mind being unhealthy in a certain way.

@zerrodefex20 күн бұрын
@@Nolansgrandson not so much stiff as weak, the body has ways of protecting itself and one is that it will not let you stretch the muscle past a point under load if it senses that you'll injure yourself or just fall over. As your hinge strength increased your unconscious lets you hinge further without kicking on the brakes as it knows that you can get back up. The weight is necessary as without it the body would not be stimulated to get stronger in that awkward position.

I think the hybrid training approach has a little more merit than you give it credit for. I care about my strength a lot, but also I’m in the military so my endurance is often more important. A lot of high profile hybrid athletes are also veterans or in military adjacent fields (Nick Bare - Ranger, Jack Driscol - Firefighter, Keegan Zachary - Green Beret, Joshua Bridges - Navy Seal, Winniesworld - Army Officer, etc). It’s not that we use it as a crutch, it’s that our job requires us to do both

The functional training crowd, and some of the endurance people seem to rapidly default to describing a crazy, post-apocalyptic action movie scenario to justify criticizing everyone else. Like, "well, what if you have to full on run 100k, climb a wall, and balance on a tightrope to get away from enemy forces!?" Well, what if you have to lift a car off of someone, bro? Still silly...but 10000x more likely to be useful in your lifetime.
@thebadger199321 күн бұрын
Also there won't be any heavy things that ever need to be moved in any variety of ways in this strange post-apocalypse. In fact, you'll never have to exert force against an external resistance. Status in this non-society will be determined purely by your ability to do simple parkour maneuvers.

And if somehow you do end up having to do all of that, you’ll still be better off as a natural bodybuilder/strongman/power lifter, than the average person by far 😂
