This video was intended to show that both games are great & that there is no need to immediately jump to the conclusion that one is inherently better than the other (while showing a few fun differences in the game less of us are familiar with), but I’m not sure I got that point across very well. When I first saw people in comment sections talking about Fields of Mistria it felt like it was constantly people saying that “this game is ripping off Stardew Valley” or a similar sentiment. Then, I began to see posts from people saying that Fields of Mistria was sooo much better than Stardew Valley & how Stardew “could never” in relation to FoM. Both of those opinions were quite off putting to me to be honest. Obviously, I do not have a problem making comparisons between the two (I did it in this video and in my long form video) but I have a hard time understanding why Fields of Mistria can’t be considered a good game that is different to Stardew, while still obviously (and admittedly) taking plenty of inspiration from it, and on the other hand why Stardew Valley can’t be recognized by others as the huge form of inspiration that it is for those at NPC studios. Not to ramble on, (I’m sorry lol), but I just wanted to clarify that I love Stardew Valley, it’s obviously my favorite game, but Fields of Mistria looks super promising with all that we can see in early access! Comparisons can be made while still lifting up both games. (Also I wasn’t paid to make this video lmao. Please rest easy in knowing I would ALWAYS disclose something like that.)

Iirc, the creators of Fields of Mistria actually said themselves that they were *inspired* by Stardew Valley. I’d imagine copy-cat games wouldn’t want to directly say they were inspired by the game they’re ripping off. When I first saw the game, my thoughts were just “Sounds kinda like Stardew Valley, I’m guessing they were either inspired by it or inspired by games that may have inspired Stardew Valley.” I also looked at it on my own before deciding “This is a copy” or “This just seems somewhat similar”. I highly advise others to start looking into games first, instead of jumping to “This is a farm sim with magic and a bunch of NPCs?! Copy!” Editing to add the fact that I’m sorry if this sounded kinda rant-y, I’m just waiting for the game to be finished before I start playing and I hate that people are judging it without giving it an actual chance since that can risk games being finished

I have played BOTH, and while they are similar, the vibe is VERY DIFFERENT!!! Even the story to start with is different: Stardew: You inherit land from your grandfather and you move to the countryside to get away from the city Fields of mystria: You were/are an adventurer and accepted a request to an area that needed help after sending a request to the guild after the royal kingdom could not help them much. So, youre here to receive the land in EXCHANGE for accepting the request to help/contribute to the areas growth. Fields of Mystria is more "fantasy" D&D vibe compared to stardew, where everyone in town just thinks magic as "strange phenomenas"/ "ur imagining stuff" I havent played it long but its on steam available for early access!!! i love it so far!! As a longtime Harvest Moon veteran, even an enjoyer of the Stardew Valley game, I feel the same way. Stardew Valley wasn't the first! Harvest Moon was! I was quite peeved initially when people thought of Stardew Valley as some revolutionary game that invented a new genre when it first came out. Honestly, while Stardew Valley is fun, there's a lot more elements from the older Harvest Moon games that I prefer. The IP of Harvest Moon is just more pleasing with the elements of the Harvest Goddess and Harvest Sprites. Heck! Harvest Moon even introduced special marriage candidates before its quality started going downhill, which seems to be a popular adoption in a lot of farming sims today. Fields of Mistria is much more my style as it seems to match of the style and depth in story that Harvest Moon was an MVP of in its earlier works. I do hope they tweak the issues of time management in FoM though.... The map is so large that it feels like you're rushing to do everything.

Personally, I like Stardew "clones". Graveyard Keeper is referred to, in our house, as "Edgy, Spooky Stardew" or Stardew Valley's goth younger sibling, lol. Slightly different type of game, but close enough that it feels like the nickname is earned, and we don't mean it as a negative. It's one of my wife's favorite games, and while I do prefer Stardew myself, I absolutely love to play Graveyard Keeper with her, and technically found it first. But I know her, I knew she fall in love with the macabre atmosphere. FoM looks to be another Stardew "clone" that I would definitely spend hundreds of hours loving. And no need for the Magic Spells mod, to boot. 😊

Graveyard Keeper is a cash grab tho, they made paid DLCs when those DLCs were meant to be part of the main-game per kickstarter rules. I would love to have the ability to buy produce ingredients that you have sold from your farm. Like from Rune factory 4 where once you have sold an item, it becomes available at the general store for purchase regardless of season

I like how in mistria the other npcs help you rebuild the town. (Story wise, not gameplay wise)

I have a total of 85 hours in the fields of mystria, and I can tell you that this game is more like a love letter to farming sim and retro game fans. YES! There are mechanics and stuff that remind you of Stardew Valley, and that's fine. Because stardew is a direct inspiration from Harvest Moon. What I love about this game is that as you go deeper, you can see the relationships of NPCs in the game. They have different schedules, and it's cute to see them hanging out and doing community nights together. Plus the combat is fun (i wont spoil it ahahah) and you don't really sense or use the magic that much. I have no regrets about getting this game when I completed stardew.

I like say they got inspired and seem made it more pixilated like Pokémon on game boy but def not rip off but seems so interesting I honestly hope both creators end up collab making a huge game Mashup of stardew valley and fields of mistria like stardewXmistria

Mistria I feel like has way more depth to the communication with your neighbors. They say your name and ask you questions and include you in conversations when you pop up randomly into their group chat bubbles

The characters in Mistria feel much more lively. I always felt from the beginning that Stardew Valley's weakest point was the unlikeable characters. Krobus and the Dwarf were the only ones I liked.

Also I hope Mistria adds co-op one day. I have friends that I want to play with :c

I have to admit that what I liked the most of Stardew Valley was the stories of the NPCs, so I would like to see more videos exploring the NPCs of other "Neighborvania" games.

I’ve been really really enjoying Mistria. Stardew has a lot of content and a lot to do and it feels chaotic and frantic at times (maybe I’m playing it wrong). But in Mistria I can really take my time without panicking at the disco.

Honestly a game I hardly remember that I used to play on my Xbox when I was a kid (like 7-9 I think?) is similar to Stardew Valley. You take care of animals and live on a farm. You treat the farm nearly the same way you treat the Stardew farm but the animals are in stalls and if you don't feed or water them they die so easily and it guilt trips you. I remember a scene where you walk into the village and it's really blossomy and it says something about the blossoms being in full bloom or good luck being in the air or something? I've never seen anyone talk about it and can't find it anywhere anymore. I was looking for it when I found Stardew Valley actually, so I just latched onto Stardew Valley instead.

I’ve been inspired to work on a post apocalyptic variant of sorts, far diffent in many ways, focusing on scavenging and combat when not farming. Though I’m really bad at art

That's cool. You get to learn magic. I feel like there's a difference between Stardew Valley and Fields of Mistrai. The anime character profiles, the Mother series vibe, and breeding mechanics. I might need to look further into this one.

fields of mistria is still in early access, the mines only go up to 60, there's only one festival, hearts only go up to 4, there's no sprinklers, and you have to manually put feed in your barns or coops. there's a lot missing, since it's not finished yet. the writing is where it really shines though, I don't think I've ever found NPC dialogue genuinely funny till this game. I actually go to the weekly gathering in the inn to hear what everyone has been up to, it's been a year and so far no repeated dialogue.
@kahvipaputyyppiАй бұрын
They have a totally different feeling! Fields of Mistria is a lot more like a fantasy role playing game, conversations with other characters have much more variety and there are LOTS to do every day. I feel like it's less of a farming game and much more story based.

I think some people just can't tell the difference between inspired by media and blatant knock off media. It's perfectly fine to have a love letter to another piece of media, as long as you build on it
