This was an awesome video, thanks for making it! I grew up with tthe Wii version so it's super interesting to get a breakdown of the differences.

This kind of technical breakdown and comparison is really interesting and fun to watch. Has to be a lot of editing work though. Thank you for making these. Twilight Princess holds a special place for me and your Speedrun content has been a great way to relive it.
21:40 I'm definitely looking forward to commentated videos! You've quickly become one of my favorite creators, your explanations are always clear and the editing+little things you add to the script make these videos an absolute joy to watch.

I don't know much about the other versions of TP and I am glad you made this video to show how broken the other versions also are with their game exclusive glitches used in Hundo. Also wtf was that sick flip at 50:50? I have never seen a backflip go forward

Im def not a speed runner, don't have the patience or skill to pull it off, but its so fascinating watching videos like this. I had no idea there were so many differences in the mechanics of each version, i love that there is such a wide variance of tricks and exploits you can use depending on which one you play. This is my favorite zelda game hands down, and I've always thought it was so interesting that it happened one of the hardest to speedrun. Im sure theres a technical reason for why its like that, but to me it feels like the devs wanted players to really sit with the story and connect to it. It felt like they knew they made something special with midna's story, and they weren't going to let us miss it.

@@bewildebeest The man himself! Random question unrelated to my original comment: does it mess you up to go from Wii to GC with the game flip or was it just confusing when you started and now it doesn’t matter?
@bewildebeest4 сағат бұрын
@@pistonfists I spent so much time looking at the Wii areas while making the glitchless TAS that even though I obviously know that they're the GC areas mirrored, I'm able to think of many of them as their own independent areas and get less confused. I do sometimes go the wrong direction though.
@pistonfists4 сағат бұрын
@@bewildebeest That makes sense. I played the Wii version only as a child many times and memorized the game so when HD came out and I played it casually I felt super confused. It makes sense to just think of the areas as distinct from each other for sure. Thanks for the reply, love your content as always!

33:06, so just from a aspiring game dev perspective, there's really only two likely scenarios that I see #1 the different tunics, including wolf link are different level objects, and those level objects are likely stored either to the player, player camera, or the map origin. possibly with an offset. whereever in the level these objects are stored, wolf link's objects and the tunics probobly have a different offset than the tunics just for organization purposes in the debugging process. how it would normally work is that when you're swapping out different characters, the hero's tunic teleported in place of the zora tunic, and that's all well and good. but by crossing paths, the wolf pseudo-tunic would get displaced because there's not proper graphics, or coordinates for it. #2 it could be a problem with raw logic. let's say all the character states are stored values, and there obviously wouldn't be one for zora + wolf, and you can't have two values occupy the same slot, so they constantly override eachother. this i feel is less likely, because it would be easy to make a failsafe or even just a priority system. but this could also be the case if, instead of setting values, the game checks and applies math in order to get those values. so you set it to an invalid value, zora (5) + wolf (10) = tunic 15, and there is no tunic 15, but this is what the game assumes is true from the math.

48:52 "but for some reason, the fans rotate more slowly on HD, making it easier to reach the top without missing the cycle." what do you mean, for some reason? isn't that the reason? I mean, the 3D and HD remasters are an oppertunity for Aonuma to go back and fix many of the little problems with the original games, and revise his work, and this is one of the things that he noticed apparently. simple.

I find the differences between game releases very interesting, almost as much as the way small changes to a ruleset or options in a speedrun can have unexpected consequences. So this was a great way to spend an hour, even though I've never played Twilight Princess on any version!
