21:50 It's a direct reference to what the doctor said in the (first) movie, a single cell can take over a living organism. In that case it wouldn't need to rip through your clothes, but slowly take over the body until it is "too late" (cut off a limb for instance). And it was also said it would wait till someone is alone to consume/copy them, so following orders and killing other things would fit that strategy.

@natalielyric29502 ай бұрын
@nonya1366 In theory, any Thing creature could give off pheromones or something similar to communicate with any other Thing creature, essentially making them a hivemind (I haven't seen anything to suggest Things have individual identities)

each thing is an individual, but their motivations are so uniform it might as well not matter
@Lucaintheninjatank2 ай бұрын
@@nonya1366 I believe each piece is an individual driven by survival instincts. So a Thing will throw another one under the bus if it helps it survive or pieces of a Thing will abandon the "main" body in order to survive. It's why the blood test works, since the blood being put under damage will attempt to survive despite it dooming the larger Thing it originally came from.
@WoobooRidesAgain2 ай бұрын
Something else to note too that supports this idea, but it's also *SPOILERS* so I'm going to put it down a ways. So at the climax of the famous blood test scene, the Palmer-Thing grabs and mauls to death Windows, throwing his corpse aside. After the Palmer-Thing is dispatched, Windows suddenly begins to move again, and the sounds he makes as well as the melted state of his body make it clear that Windows is now a Thing. This lends itself to the idea that the infection is communicable as a contagion, rather than - as other scenes would indicate - purely a budding-type situation where the creature absorbs another creature and makes a copy of them, and while we only see this happen with corpses (and it's situational - Cooper didn't become one after having his arms bitten off and dying as a result), it'd be reasonable to assume that this can also happen with a living being.

The grey-to-blue colour grading shift was possibly the movies being used by the medium of the time for reference; the DVD of the Thing is NOT saturated in blues, and would've been available for a 2000's team, while the blu-ray release we have these days shows off the blues magnificently. It's likely to be more in line with the changing understanding of the film as access to such versions changed.

In the film Fuchs makes a breakthrough and makes a point that food can be contaminated so its best to eat canned stuff. Later on despite Windows being proven to not be a thing, his corpse is reanimated shortly after he was attacked during the blood test scene. So when the Doc mentions the thing "consuming" life forms its more in reference to the thing's cells consuming the cells of the host rather than literal consumption (though it does that too).

Basically the only reason the Thing even goes full Meat Spaghetti Monster Mode in the movie is so that there IS a movie- Though it could be argued that the chunk of it that remained in the dog didn't remain smart enough for proper stealth, depending on if it has a mass-to-intelligence ratio thing going on like The Flood. There's a lot of questions about the Thing that remain unanswered, and that's the other half of what makes it so memorable- the other half is meat spaghetti horror.

Just a slight correction around 21:50, because it sounds like a very vague complaint - it's established in the film that The Thing isn't just absorbing and replicating, but can assimilate you on the cellular level. Wilford Brimley makes a point of it when he runs a test on a cell sample with human blood. The Thing cells replace the blood entirely and then turn back into a mimicry of blood cells. So the game having people become "infected" like a zombie virus is entirely feasible!

My most vivid memory is the "escape the exploding base" section, in that if you came into that level from the ballache that was the previous with less than (I think) 40 or so health you were softlocked due to mandatory damage. It also wasn't just immediately obvious. Smaller explosions would poke at you as you tried to run the gauntlet, I'd eventually die, try again from the awful auto save, trying to figure out if there is a path through or at least some health to pick up. But to the best of my efforts I didn't find it. Luckily I had a save. And it was back to the previous level of things being hurled at you while your auto aim decided it wanted to shoot things further away and try to make it through that one taking less damage.

It IS weird how they able to obtain the rights for the movie from Universal Pictures, but NOT Ennio Morricone's score, which you'd think would have been part of the deal because it IS part of the film. Morricone has his own page on Universal Music Publishing, with a button to inquire about licenses. Morricone also famously reclaimed copyrights on several of his other film scores under the 35 year rule of the 1976 Copyright Act. So maybe he did that with The Thing ? But then, Morricone's own website doesn't even list The Thing under his score-ography ! It's all abit strange !

It was a pleasent suprise. We loved the game and didn't mind the bugs that happend. I simply accepted them as they were and moved, enjoying the game more and forgetting about the bugs. Ah... The original had a lot of problems, not the least being the part where your companions will always transform at key points. This is exactly the kind of Remaster I love to see, regardless of whether or not the end result is great: a poor game received an update that was desperately needed to fix key issues.

28:06 That is actually pretty creepy, I won't lie. Also, I think it's pretty safe to say The Thing had malicious intent considering the fact that since it's capable of speech it could've just told eveyone it encountered it wanted to leave instead of becoming immediately violent the second it's ratted out.
@UnsoberIdiot2 ай бұрын
Yes, clearly, the very alien alien is not only capable of knowing, but understanding and communicating with us. What we saw was mimickry- it copied/overrode the subject. Perhaps all it knew was how the original would act, and that it made sound X to get effect Y. Assuming that it understood what it was saying- or even the concept of speech- is going too far. For all we know, it's not even intelligent or sentient, and is running on pure instincts, or whatever its equivalent would be.
@RebelnuttАй бұрын
I think the second it consumed someone it learned our language which was applied in the movie. The general whoever is clearly in control however I'm guessing the original thing is trying to escape and send blake that message. It already knows that a government will experiment on it and attempt so an apocalypse by the general it wouldn't mind at all.

The reason blake is a action movie hammy along with the game characters is because it's based on John carpenter the guy who more or less defined it. They probably figured since it's an action game might as well. Remember these aren't the smart scientists, it's the escape from new york types.

The delivery of "Larsen" (a name) is actually not too far off and they seem to actually have tried to say it correctly. The response of "Vegard" (another name) is someone who didn't try very hard. That being said these are both very in line with the 1982 movie where the crazy Norwegian guy they come across in the beginning who yells "IDIOTER. Det er ikke en hund. Det er en slags ting. Den bare imiterer" (Idiots, it's not a dog, it's a thing. It just imitates) aside from spoiling the movie for native Norwegian speakers is also very obviously not a native speaker either.
@pierluigiadreani21592 ай бұрын
I understand that the middle sentences may be hard to understand for an english speaking person but "idioter and "den bare imiterer" can be understood even without knowing norwegian.
@SuperHansimann2 ай бұрын
The intro of both this game and the movie will always be silly and funny to me. Especially the movie. The guy sounds like an american speaking Norwegian. It's good it is in the beginning because it would have thrown me off if it happened in the middle of the movie. The prequel/remake uses Norwegian actors which is cool. Suck that the movie isn't more original.
@UnsoberIdiot2 ай бұрын
@@pierluigiadreani2159 More or less all of it can be understood. Sure, you may not know "ikke", "slags", or "bare", but you should be able to piece it together. Then again, many people are very silly, and simply go "this is not my language".
@mollylong35712 ай бұрын
@pierluigiadreani2159 also how much can it really "spoil" the movie haha, it's a horror movie called The Thing and the dog acts very sinister immediately like. Not too difficult to figure out the dog is a thing.
