Sbongiseni: I think you don't understand, I am depressed. I have depression. Black mom: Oh okay, so now if you're depressed, does that mean we mustn't eat? *Sbongiseni sighs Black mom: No, I was just asking. So now that you're depressed like this, we're not eating. When I come into your room, you say I'm toxic. We're now scared of you in this house. To be honest...you're selfish. You're just like your father! Sbongiseni: Just leave me alone, would you just leave me alone?! Black mom: This depression must go back to wherever it came from! Go back! Go back! The "impression" it must stop now, it must stop! **Black mom walks out Black mom: I said...the pots and dishes are waiting for you. Also, I'm going to the society meeting now, I want to lock. If we consider the trauma & depression our parents have went through and never had the opportunity to heal from because 'life must go on' and survival mode was their auto pilot, it makes it easier to understand (not accept or condone) why they are unsympathetic towards depressed kids. Labantu deadass saw their friends being killed but couldn't mourn/heal from that cos life simply had to go on! Let's break these curses guys 💔

@@youngbaby464 yes that's fair but when people don't address the difficulties that they've experienced this then affects their behaviours subconsciously, how they treat others and effectively results in generational trauma. If we practice being empathetic and understanding we help to break these patterns of behaviour and break the stigma surrounding seeking help for mental health ❤️

It took forever for my parents to understand my depression. As a teenager they thought I was just being difficult and told me to get over it. As an adult my depression got very bad and their advice would be “exercise more, be happy!” Until it got so bad that I had a mental break down. I started doing therapy and started taking antidepressants, at first they were very against the medication, but as they saw me changing for the better they got on board. Now they bug me all the time to check that im still taking my meds.

Some Black moms don't have time to entertain depression. As long as you living under their roof, the only thing that can depress you is washing dishes, and all the house chores, everything else is just nonsense.🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Lasizwe for making us laugh😅 we appreciate you.

That must be a Constantia white mom, because my afrikaans parents reacted more like the coloured mom. When I said I was depressed and wanted to see a therapist they said I must get over my “kinder kak” and be happy.

I know a black mom who went to therapy once and said they'd never go back because the therapist made her cry and so they must be evil. She decided from that day on to just stick to church. Anyway the reason she went to therapy was because her daughter was depressed and this was stressing her out because she must have been doing it on purpose to ruin her life. Her daughter was hoping the therapy session would at the very least educate her about mental health so she can deal with hers and stop demonizing the daughters
