This is such a sad reality to many people who come out as gay to their families. I specialise in human sexuality, in postgraduate Theology, and there's a lot of people who deny and despise their children for coming out as gay, therefore I make it my mission (and will dedicate my academic career) in my Theological discipline, to educate people on the fact that there is a difference between ancient Biblical, Quranic, Talmudic etc. texts concerning sexual ethics, and 21st Century sexual ethics! People cannot confuse the one with the other... It's irresponsible. I am not gay, so I may not understand physically to a 'T' what people are going through, but I can humanly, psychologically and emotionally empathise with it. I'm in the middle of opening a coaching practice where I assist people who come out as gay, to adjust in their newfound identity and help them engage and facilitate such difficult discussion with their families and loved ones. It's truly become a passion of mine! Embrace your otherness! Being gay is not shameful, sinful or disgraceful - it's courageous, it's wonderful, and it's you. Whether you are religious or not, everyone should be accepted regardless of their sexual identity, and being normal is overrated anyway.
