Would you like to see a full factory tour of the DMM facility in Wales? If enough people say YES we might be able to justify the expense to make that video happen.

Factory tours are killer! DMM would be a very interesting place since they do so much in-house! Though apparently, BD seems the best prepared for a tour of this type. They have great PR. The Mammut Rope videos on KZbin are unlike any other! Those tests, the detail in the video, their deep understanding and commitment to rope tech. They are on the cutting edge. That would be a super interesting facility to take a look at!

That would definitely be very cool!

@@MattNicassio Agreed! One very interesting note about Mammut's rope manufacturing is that they actually sold their factory to Teufelberger in 2016. So although I believe their ropes are still made in the same factory, Mammut technically doesn't operate that factory any more. Side note: Maxim ropes are also owned by Teufelberger. Oh so many cool factory tours we need to do!!!

@hydra66 YES! We actually visited DMM's facilities in July and it is even crazier than we imagined! The dedication to perfection at every step of the process is palpable. (And yes, our goal is to put out some videos showing that). -AD

Thanks, Matt. We've been trying to get to DMM to do a proper BTS of the factory but in the mean time figured this might be helpful to people interested in how their gear is made -Andreas

Do they make carabiners for anyone else?
@WeighMyRack5 жыл бұрын
Yes! DMM makes carabiners and belay devices for other companies. (I don't know if we can share any more details about that...). -AD

@@WeighMyRack I am curious now, can you ask them if they can share that information? Would be really cool to know about other gear produced by them, I am always interested in trying out different designs!

@@Martijn_Poot Yes! I will ask. Coincidentally, we're flying to Wales on Saturday to spend time with DMM, so I'll ask them in person and see what the situation is around disclosure. Stay tuned. -AD

@@Martijn_Poot So I checked in and DMM doesn't mind if you know what gear they make, but the companies they make gear for aren't as stoked for that to be shared all over the place. If you search the net, you can find some more info, like in 2010 DMM officially responded to a post about which brands they make gear for: www.ukclimbing.com/forums/gear/mammut_bionic_screwgates-425185. And there are rumors on the internet that you can decide to find worthy or not: www.averagealpinist.com/writing/2016/4/12/long-term-review-dmm-pivot DMM does make gear for non-climbing brands too, but mostly it's specialty parts and not a whole device.

Click bait stop here not what u think
@MattNicassio5 жыл бұрын
It's obviously not an on site dive into their manufacturing process. Such as the Edelrid video series that WeighMyRack did. But, watch the video, and then decide what YOU would name it...? The name seems pretty fair at that point huh? The video description is a more detailed description of what the video is: "Chris Rowlands from DMM explains the process they use to hot forge all of their carabiners." Seems a little unfair to call the title clickbait when it accurately describes the content...
@WeighMyRack5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you think this is click bait :( For a couple of years now we've been trying to figure out a way to get over to the DMM factory in Wales and make a proper run through of the entire process with visuals to support the explanation. But that just hasn't been feasible - so we asked Chris to bring examples of the products throughout the process so he could give us a run through of how they make their carabiners. I totally understand wanting to see a full factory tour type video. At least I assume that's what you were expecting to see in this video. Is that true? Would you want us to do a video like that? Our goal is to give the climbing community information into the how and why behind the climbing gear that comes out on the market. Some of the videos we make don't have much how and why, but are limited to the information we can get from the manufacturer. But we still think getting some information about a product is better than less information. That's why we don't keep our videos under the 3 minutes that almost everyone we film says we should. If there is information, we want to pass that onto our audience. Even if 99% of people would find it boring I like to thing there are other people like me who really want to nerd out on the gear. And for the people that find it boring, they can simply move on to other content. No harm, no foul :) Again, I'm sorry you found this to be misleading. That is NOT what I want to do. Please let me know what you were hoping to get when you clicked into this video... Who knows, we might actually be able to make that exact video. Thanks, Andreas
