Scaling the bump depending on the cameras distance is a great piece of info. Everything else was basic and i learnt nothing. I Would not pay for this video. He skims over everything and teaches nothing except a few material node concepts for a software that I don't use. This isn't even a 'workflow' to get photorealostic models. It is a work flow for rendering any 3d model. This video is completely unrelated to photorealism, he just happens to be using them as the example but teaches you nothing about rendering photo-realistic itself.

Man, this video is so slick. What I really love about it is that you are talking about your methods as a strategy. Why you do the things you do. Rather than a step by step of making a scalloped cut on a pen, you incept ideas on how to solve the problem with the audience. Your pacing and flow between information didn't once tempt me to grab the timeline head to fast forward to relevant info. This is real internet teaching. I have become an instant fan.

I do 3D models for manufacturing purposes aka I use fusion 360 among other CAD CAM softwares. Something I’ve learned and you pointed to was starting with a basic shape then editing it to get your model. Thinking of complicated items as just a few squares and circles helps a bunch. Details are always the last thing done when manufacturing and part same goes for modeling. Keep up the great work Clint!

Confession: I do not do any sort of 3D modeling, and I doubt I ever will. I'm just a fan of Clint and I'm here to support him with a view, a like, and a comment. It may just be a drop in the bucket, but it's the least I can do. On topic: I probably watched half the video before I realized that the objects he was showing us in the close-ups were the 3D models and not the real objects. That is some next-level wizardry right there.

I like how you remind everyone it doesn’t matter if we use Blender, Maya, Cinema, 3ds, etc. These days the line is blurring with the differences. Sure there’s pros and cons in each, but they are all similar workflows. Even if hotkeys are different, you still have subdivisions, edge loops, rendering, node texturing, the PBR shader is the same these days, etc. even the gradient node has an equivalent called Color Ramp. Also when you modeled the wooden table, Cinema’s clone tool is Blender’s Array tool, and both I believe function similarly even if the mindset and workflow feel a little different. But yea I watch blender to learn new features and specifics to blender, but I follow you religiously because you DON’T use blender and it’s to teach me from a modeling perspective and not JUST from a using Blender only perspective. Doing it that way you realize how similar every 3D program is these days.

This taught me something major, I've been making a mistake with my surface imperfections! I was that guy who asked about Cycles4D on one of your streams and I saw that there are similarities in it's nodegraph functions so I found this really helpful as I don't have Octane or Redshift. But all this time I've been putting my surface imperfections into the bump and normal channels. Why I didn't even consider the roughness channel is beyond me. Also the way of cutting a perfect circle out of an object, fantastic tip! I'll definitely be utilising what info I've managed to take away from this, thanks Clint!

Happy to see you're back on your KZbin grind. Corridor Crew was a great stepping stone into the next chapter.

1:15 Blender tip: If you have limited geometry to work with (maybe it's a video game asset you're making) you can sometimes instead of using edge loops go into edit mode then select the edge that needs to be sharper. And now press Shift+E and move your mouse to control how sharp that edge is! PS, this doesn't always give the best result so just try it out and hopefully it looks good!
